in Strathmere

STRATHMERE — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is partnering with the Strathmere Improvement Association to advance its pollinator plant mission.

The agency has donated 1,000 seaside goldenrod plants to be placed in the back dunes in Strathmere. The SIA is seeking volunteers to help get the plants in the ground and watered over the next few weeks.

A planting session is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, June 15. Participants will meet at the Williams Avenue beach entrance. They should wear appropriate clothing, a hat, sunscreen, water and snacks. The plants are small, 2-inch plugs that will be planted in sand, so gloves and spades are not necessary.

The donation kicks off a multi-year project in which the Fish and Wildlife Service will help the SIA plant native plants in back dune areas.
