Ruth Janet Kiefer

In Loving Memory: (Ruth) Janet Kiefer (1934-2023).

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Janet Kiefer, a devoted wife, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished great grandmother. She departed this world on May 9th, 2023, at the age of 88, leaving behind her husband of 66 years, Frederick Kiefer Jr; children Steven (Lorrie) and Suzanne O’Donnell (Paul); grandchildren Jason (Bethany), Evan, Bryan (Kaitlyn), Emily (Tawan), and Chris; great grandchildren Isabelle, Levi, Hannah, Sydney, Caleb, Wesley, and Eli.

Janet was born on October 6, 1934 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She attended and graduated from Roxborough High School. Early in life she worked in the mortgage business for W.A. Clark. While strolling the boards in Ocean City at the age of 19 she met the love of her life, Fred. She devoutly waited for Fred to finish his army deployment to Germany. While waiting, they shared countless transatlantic letters as only young lovers could do. Upon Fred’s return, they married and started their family. Later they moved to Turnersville, NJ to raise their young children. While in Turnersville, she worked in the Washington Township cafeteria. In their later years, she and Fred retired to Ocean City, NJ to enjoy life at the shore and spend time with family and friends.

When she wasn’t spending time with her family, Janet enjoyed reading, working with needlepoint canvas, and baking. Her home was always filled with the aroma of fresh baked cinnamon swirl cake, apple or blueberry crisp, chocolate chip cake, or her famous chocolate chip cookies. She loved to share her creations with her loved ones and neighbors, and they were always met with smiles and gratitude. Janet also had a soft spot for Boston Terriers, and she found great comfort in their companionship.

Above all else, Janet’s family meant everything to her. She was a devoted wife to her husband, and a loving mother to her children. Her five grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment she spent with her seven great grandchildren.

A funeral service to honor the life of Janet Kiefer will be held on May 19, 2023 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 20 North Shore Road, Marmora, NJ 08223. Friends and family are invited to join in remembrance and to pay their respects at a visitation from 9am-10am with the service beginning at 10am.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Janet’s name to Holy Redeemer Hospice (www.redeemerhealth.org/giving/memorial-and-tribute-gifts) or Trinity United Methodist Church (https://www.trinityumcmarmora.org).
