Rooftop deck elevates home above neighbors three blocks off beach

OCEAN CITY — Just three blocks off the beach in the island’s popular Goldcoast neighborhood, the spacious home at 2434 Central Ave. is filled with light and ready for a party.

Featuring an open-concept great room, four large bedrooms and front and rear porches all topped by a rooftop deck, the second-floor condominium is awaiting its next family.

“This beautifully maintained home is nestled on one of the most desirable blocks on the island, offering ocean views and refreshing sea breezes,” listing agent Gray Haenn said.

The duplex is sided in tan vinyl with white accents, softened by awnings on both floors — up top, they’re retractable, offering sun or shade, depending on the mood.

A concrete walkway leads down the north side to a sheltered stairwell that ascends to the 1,569-square-foot home. There’s also access in the sheltered alcove to a hallway leading to a storage room and the oversized one-car garage, which has its own closet for even more beach gear. There’s space for another car out back.

Wooden stairs rise to the second floor, where the entrance is located, and continue up to the private rooftop deck. Offering views of the ocean, its height provides a panoramic view of the island.

Inside the door, the great room opens up to the left with a 14-foot-high cathedral ceiling that slopes down to each side.

Multiple windows — both at eye level and high in the ocean-facing side — provide abundant natural light throughout the space.

A spacious sitting room takes up the left half of the room, offering a sofa, love seat and chair atop wall-to-wall carpeting. A gas fireplace is topped by two clerestory windows, allowing the morning light to shine inside.

The dining area is in the front corner, where the long wood table can easily accommodate eight people, with another two on stools at the center island.

The table is just inside a swinging glass door with two side panels that opens onto the front porch, where relaxing with a cold drink in hand is in order before heading out to the boardwalk for the night.

The southern entrance to the 2.5-mile-long wooden way is just a couple of blocks away at 23rd Street, making it easy to traverse the island on foot of bicycle.

Featuring natural wood cabinets, the kitchen is in the back corner and features abundant storage and working space to feed a hungry crew or prepare for a party.

A short flight of stairs off the kitchen rises to the bedrooms, two full bathrooms and a powder room, along with a laundry closet.

Two of the bedrooms have twin beds, large closets and wall-to-wall carpeting, while one has a full-size bed and direct access to the powder room, which can be reached from the hallway just beside the laundry closet.

Stretching across the width of the home, the primary bedroom has windows on three sides, making it almost as light and bright as the great room.

The bed is against the south wall and beneath a wide clerestory window, which allows light in but maintains privacy. One of the two large closets is in this corner, while the second is over on the north side by the door to the private rear deck. There’s room for a small sofa, desk or workout equipment. There’s also an ensuite bathroom with a shower.

“This home is not a rental and is in immaculate condition,” Haenn said.

Ocean City is one of the most popular shore resorts on the East Coast, featuring a 2.5-mile-long oceanfront boardwalk filled with shopping, dining and entertainment venues, as well as miles and miles of pristine beaches. There also is an award-winning downtown business district centered on Asbury Avenue and a watersports district around Third Street on Bay Avenue.

The Goldcoast, from 18th to 34th streets, is centrally located between the Northend starting at North Street and the Southend ending at 59th Street. It is highly residential but peppered with mom-and-pop shops and features some of the most amazing beachfront properties on the island.

Movie star and princess of Monaco Grace Kelly spent summers in the family’s Goldcoast home. It was built in 1929 on the corner of Wesley Avenue and 26th Street.

The property is listed for $1.595 million with Gray Haenn of Berger Realty. Call (215) 421-7609 or email grayocnj@gmail.com for more information or to set up an appointment to see this wonderful home.
