He wins at 215 pounds in District 30; Red Raider, Mustang wrestlers move on to Region 8 tournament
GALLOWAY – Red Raider Jacob Chapman is a District 30 wrestling champion.
Wrestling in the 215-pound class at the district tournament at Absegami High School Saturday, the junior won by technical fall, 19-4, over Mainland’s Eban Kuhns in a time of 5:13. He earned the title by pinning No. 2 seed Chris Owen of Kingsway at the 2:39 mark in the finals.
Kuhn won the consolation match by 8-6 decision, making it to Region 8.
Other wrestlers from Ocean City and Mainland Regional High School also competed in the District 30 tournament, with two making it to the finals.
The top three wrestlers at the districts advance to the Region 8 Tournament later this week.

At 126 pounds, Mainland’s Mario DiBartolo, the No. 4 seed, beat No. 5 Fox Rockleman 7-5 in the quarterfinals before being pinned by top seed and eventual champion Anthony Mason in the semifinals.
In the consolation round, DiBartolo won by technical fall, 23-5, over Middle Township’s Michael Layer in a time of 5:49 to move on to Region 8.
In the same division, Ocean City’s Ryan Kaczmarski, a No. 7 seed, lost by technical fall to No. 2 seed Landon Pallies of Kingsway.
At 132 pounds, Ocean City’s Wyatt Tolson earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament, winning in the quarterfinals with a pin in 4:58 over Mainland’s Justin Mazur. He followed that with a 13-1 major decision in the semifinals over Roman Villeco of Kingsway.
He lost in the finals by pin in 3:26 to No. 2 seed Dion Mesanko of Southern, but will move on to Region 8.
Red Raider Ayden Majors, the No. 2 seed at 190 pounds, earned byes in the first two rounds and won by 8-6 decision over No. 3 Connor Hagan of Middle Township in the semifinals. He lost by pin in 54 seconds in the finals to No. 1 seed Levi Foote, but also advances to Region 8.
Red Raider Zarian Cabalo, the No. 3 seed at 165, beat Mainland’s Trevor Dill, the No. 6 seed, by pin in 2:36 in the quarterfinals. Cabalo lost in the semifinals by 19-6 major decision to Middle Township’s Robert Attenborough.
In the consolation match, Cabalo earned a 13-4 major decision over Pinelands’ Hans Francis, sending him on to Region 8.
At 175 pounds, No. 2 seed Vincent Hoag pinned No. 7 Mason Cermanki in 1:03 in the quarterfinals, then was pinned by No. 3 seed Jamar Greaves of Kingsway in the semifinals.
In the consolation match, the Mustang won a 6-5 decision over Middle Township’s Noah Nagle to make it to the Region 8 tournament. Ocean City’s Dominic Schultz, the No. 5 seed at 175 pounds, fell by an 8-2 decision to Nagle in the quarterfinals.
Red Raider Reed Watson, the No. 4 seed at 138 pounds, pinned No. 5 Kevin Longo of Oakcrest in the quarterfinals, then lost to No. 1 seed and eventual champion Ryan Preziosi of Kingsway by technical fall, 15-0. He made it to the consolation round, but lost to Middle Township’s Ryan Gardner by pin in 1:36 and ended up fourth.
At 144 pounds, Mainland’s Daniel MacKinnon, the No. 4 seed, lost by 6-3 decision in the quarterfinals to Kingsway’s No. 5 Jayden Watson, and No. 7 seed Lucas Palmer of Ocean City fell by pin to Benjamin Caffarelli of Absegami, the No. 2 seed.
Ocean City’s Logan Fearnhead, the No. 5 seed at 157 pounds, lost by major decision, 15-5, in the quarterfinals to Middle Township’s Colin Prokson, the No. 4 seed.
In the 285-pound class, Ocean City’s Will Kutschera, the No. 6 seed, upset No. 3 Shiloh Pressley of Absegami by pinning him at the 4:55 mark. Kutschera lost in the semifinals to No. 2 Nathaniel McCrone by technical fall, 23-6.
In the consolation match, Kutschera lost by pin in 1:22 to Oakcrest’s Youssef Nosair and finished fourth.
