Red Raider hockey opens season with 2 wins, 1 loss

The Ocean City High School field hockey team opened the season by shutting out Millville then was shut out by West Essex Saturday in a non-conference game. Above, Red Raider goalie Taryn Dolka makes a save against West Essex’s high-powered offense. Dolka had 12 saves in that game. West Essex goalie Abby Zanelli made 8 saves. The Ocean City girls rebounded Monday, beating Atlantic City 10-0. Against Millville Brooke Hanley and Tricia Nicoletti each scored 2 goals and Julia Neff, Kelsea Cooke and Kate Cossaboon each scored 1. Ella Jefferson had 2 assists and Hanley, Neff and Cossaboon each had 1.   Dolka made one save in the game. Against Atlantic City, Nicoletti had a huge day, scoring 4 goals. Jefferson was close behind with 3 goals, Neff had 2 and Taylor Amstutz had 1. Ella Kutschera had 2 assists and Hanley, Neff and Jefferson had 1 each. The Red Raiders, now 2-1, are at Egg Harbor Township at 4 p.m. today (Wednesday).
