Patricia Ann Smith (Cummings), 90, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, of Marmora, NJ passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024, surrounded by her family. Patricia was born on September 13, 1934 to John and Anastasia Cummings of Newburgh, NY.
She graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1953 and worked as a teaching assistant for the Newburgh School District for 20+ years.
Patricia (Pat) met her soulmate, John “Bud” Smith, in the third grade at St. Mary’s School, Newburgh, NY. Their love blossomed over the years, and they were married in April 1961, celebrating 63 wonderful years together. After retirement in 1998, Pat and Bud split their time between their home in Seaville, NJ, and their winters in Fort Myers, FL.
Pat was an amazing cook and loved having family gatherings. She enjoyed playing shuffleboard and fishing in retirement with Bud and was deeply involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives, attending every event she could and always offering support, encouragement, and love. In addition to her love for family, Pat was an enthusiastic Phillies fan and closely followed the FGCU women’s basketball team during her winters in Florida, enjoying every game with passion and pride. Until recently, Pat and Bud were still enjoying Broadway shows together. They both were active members in Sea Isle City AARP and of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in Marmora, NJ.
Pat leaves behind her beloved husband, Bud, her son Michael and wife Corina, daughter Kathleen, and son Brian and wife Reneé. She was a proud grandmother to Courtney, Chelsea, Michael, Kayleen, Brianna, Ethan, Elliot, Paulina, and Georgianna, and a loving great-grandmother to Emma, Ronja, Odin, Mia, Bryan, and Audrey Taylor. Pat also leaves behind her beloved granddog Lulu. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into each of their lives. Patricia is also survived by her brother, Robert (Marion) Cummings, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom she cherished deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Philip and John Cummings.
Arrangements are being handled by the Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, NJ.
A celebration of Patricia’s life will be held with a mass on January 18, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish.
