Part of Route 9 to be closed in both directions for two months

SOMERS POINT — Route 9/New Road is scheduled to be closed and detoured in both directions for about two months as the Greate Bay Country Club Pedestrian Tunnel Replacement Project begins.

Since Jan. 5, the part of Route 9/New Road northbound and southbound has been closed and detoured from Somers Point-Mays Landing Road to North Village Drive.

According to the Department of Transportation, the closures are necessary to replace the Greate Bay Country Club pedestrian tunnel. Access to housing developments along Route 9 will be maintained for local residents, school buses and emergency services.

The following detours are expected to remain in place for approximately two months:

Route 9/New Road northbound detour:

— Motorists on Route 9/New Road northbound will be directed to turn right onto Somers Point-Mays Landing Road eastbound

— Turn left onto Route 52/MacArthur Boulevard northbound, back to Route 9/New Road

Route 9/New Road southbound Detour:

— Motorists on Route 9/New Road southbound will be directed to turn left onto Route 52/MacArthur Boulevard southbound

— Turn right onto Somers Point-Mays Landing Road/CR 559 westbound, back to Route 9/New Road

Variable messaging signs are being used to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.

Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website 511nj.org for real-time travel information.
