Panagiotis ‘Peter’ Mavromatis, 88

Panagiotis “Peter” Mavromatis, 88, of Ocean City, died Dec. 30, 2020.

He was born in Ithaca, Greece, on June 29, 1932.  Peter left war torn Greece and traveled to Australia at the age of 17, where he met his wife, Katherine.  Peter and Katherine moved to the US in 1969 and were lifelong residents of Ocean City, NJ.  They lost two children, one in infancy and their youngest, beloved child, Esther, to leukemia at the age of 13. Through all the trials of life, Peter is remembered for his jovial nature and infectious good humor.  Peter was a humble man, of humble beginnings.  But he was wealthy in love and good nature.   A role model of generosity, perseverance and compassion, Peter is probably best remembered by friends as “the cook” at Ready’s Coffee Shop for over thirty years.  He is survived by his daughter, Nitsa, son-in-law, Barry and grand-daughter, Maria.   Peter touched everyone he met and made the world a better place.
