Palatial estate in Marmora fit for entertaining, raising family in comfort and style

MARMORA — The home at 234 Church Road in Marmora is 6,500 square feet of beauty, both inside and out.

The palatial estate is set back off the road behind a copse of trees, with the only thing visible from the street being its mailbox.

A long driveway leads back through the trees and the 1.66-acre property opens up to reveal the wonderful home, which stretches from the gym and garage on the right to the entertainment room with built-in bar, fireplace and pool table on the left. In between are an amazing great room, gourmet kitchen and handsome foyer, as well as a children’s homework room and stairs to the second floor.

In all, the home has five bedrooms plus a nursery, four bathrooms and a fantastic great room with a 25-foot ceiling and a beautiful two-sided stone fireplace rising up through the center, separating the living room from the dining room.

Built in 2006, the home has six fireplaces, a five-zone HVAC system, smart technology, a central vacuum system, intercom, surround-sound system, two walk-up attics and an outside play area.

Out front, the concrete parking pad provides plenty of space for guests, since the house really is ideal for entertaining. There also is a basketball net with a painted arc and free-throw line.

A grassy lawn stretches across the front, down the side and continues in the rear, where there is a storage shed and children’s playhouse, as well as a trampoline and swing set.

There is a two-car garage with a single door between the gym and main house.

Mulched beds with mature shrubs line the long, covered front porch, which is supported by five handsome pillars. The exterior is cedar-impression siding and stone facia.

A brick paver walkway leads up to the porch, where solid-wood doors with leaded-glass inserts open onto a formal foyer with a view through to the living room.

The tiled area has a built-in display shelf to the left next to the natural wood staircase.

The step-down living room is forward to the right, and upon first view is nothing short of amazing. The center fireplace is clearly the centerpiece of the room, with its rustic stone rising up about 10 feet and then narrowing to the chimney that rises through exposed beams overhead and out the roof. It also has two flues, with gas on the living room side and wood on the dining room side.

The stone mantel sits beneath a huge flat-screen television.

To the left is a grouping of windows stretching up to the ceiling and overlooking the backyard, flanked by sliding glass doors. So there is plenty of natural light coming in through the rear.

The dining room on the other side contains a long wood table and a door accessing the guest suite, and is just steps away from the wet bar next to the kitchen.

The guest suite has wall-to-wall carpet, a king-size bed, a double window and swinging glass doors opening onto the backyard. It also has a walk-in closet and full bathroom with a sunken whirlpool tub and a shower tiled to the ceiling with sliding glass doors.

The incredible kitchen has a tile floor with a two-tier granite-topped center island with five barstools. On the other side is a six-burner Wolf stove with a center grill and down-draft exhaust, flanked by GE Monogram ovens. On one whole is a commercial-style, 72-inch-wide stainless-steel refrigerator/freezer. Solid-wood cabinets with granite countertops line the wall facing the front yard, where there is a three-basin stainless-steel sink next to the KitchenAid dishwasher and Sharp microwave drawer.

As if this weren’t terrific enough, there is a built-in Miele coffee maker above a steam drawer, right around the corner from the wet bar.

Off the kitchen, French doors open into a mudroom off the garage featuring built-in cubbies with hooks for kids’ coats and book bags. There also is a pantry with double swinging doors and built-in shelving.

A door leads out into the garage, through which is the extensive home gym. A back stairway in the garage leads up to the man cave, craft room and large storage area.

Back in the foyer, a room off to the right contains desks dedicated to each of the family’s children, a quiet place to do homework. Off this room, French doors open onto a sun room with a tiled floor and multiple windows all the way around. From here there is access to the backyard through a sliding glass door on directly into the living room.

A hallway that leads past the stairs contains a powder room with a tile floor and horizontal wood planks on the walls. It ultimately leads to the entertainment room at the end of the hall, where there is a corner fireplace, full bar with six stools, a couple of pinball machines and a table hockey game. The bar has a sink and GE Monogram mini-refrigerator.

In the back of the room is a slider opening onto the backyard and a door that I was surprised to find led to a full finished basement with a full bathroom, sectional sofa centered around an entertainment center and a ping-pong table.

Back upstairs, the first of the home’s bedrooms is located just off the entertainment room, and features wide-plank hardwood flooring, a king-side bed, two armchairs and a corner television, as well as sliding barn doors concealing a large closet.

Atop the wooden stairs is a sitting area overlooking the living room. Another group of windows here provides a view of the front yard. On the far end is a nursery over the garage.

At the other end of the house are the master suite, two other bedrooms and a hall bathroom, as well as a laundry room.

Double swinging doors open onto the master suite, which is large with a lofty vaulted ceiling. A chandelier hangs above the foot of the king-size bed and a corner fireplace provides warmth and ambiance. The suite contains his and hers walk-in closets on either side of a hall leading to the master bathroom.

This room is incredible, featuring a rough tile floor that extends to the walls and ceiling in the shower, where there are four jets, a standard head and a removable wand. The granite-topped vanity has his and hers sinks. Off to one side is a deep whirlpool tub with a tile surround just feet away from a wall-mounted gas fireplace.

The home is listed for $799,000 with Disston Vanderslice of Grace Realty. Call (609) (609) 675-1575, or email disston@gracerealty.com, for more information or to set up an appointment to see this wonderful home. To take a virtual tour of the home, visit my.matterport.com/show/?m=7u5w81bpkb5.
