Ocean City unlocks the ocean, business people take the plunge

John Walton, with American flag, led the annual Business Persons Plunge.

OCEAN CITY – Mayor Jay Gillian, members of Ocean City Council and other dignitaries officially Unlocked the Ocean at noon Friday by turning a ceremonial key in the sand by the Ocean City Music Pier.

That marked the official kickoff to Memorial Day weekend and the 2022 summer tourism season in America’s Greatest Family Resort.

Afterwards, John Walton led the annual Business Persons Plunge as scores of local business people and others marched fully clothed into the Atlantic Ocean – part of a silly celebration to mark the new season.
