OCEAN CITY – The Ocean City Shuffleboard Club certainly had a mixed bag weatherwise last week.
Monday was a beautiful day and we had a great turnout for our Horsecollar Games. We had some great scores with 17 shufflers scoring over 700. John Herrington led the way with a 871. Bette Wray was close behind at 869. Finishing in third was Mike Clayton at 797. Mike was followed by Tom Palmer at 780, Carol Herrington at 777, Dave Buch at 760, Kitty Wolcott and Patti Zunino at 751, and Barry Wray at 749.
Wednesday the club hosted the Reed Memorial Doubles Tournament. The weather for this event was horrible. It was cold and the wind made the courts unplayable. We put beads on the courts which make the discs slide easier. The wind was blowing so hard it sent the beads to one end of the court. This made it impossible to get the speed of your discs down right. We did have a good turnout. Winning the tournament was the team of Dave Buch and Doug Schmitt. Finishing second were Carol and John Herrington followed by Ray Endres and Tony Bucca in third and Bill and Pat Henry in fourth. I never want to play in those conditions again.
The club is at Fifth Street by the boardwalk. If you are looking to have a great time and meet a great group of people come out any Monday around 9:30 a.m. and join the club. Membership is just $5 a year. There is no cheaper way to have a great time in Ocean City.
See you at the courts .
