OCEAN CITY – Maddyn Randazzo said she was “over the moon” after she was crowned Miss Ocean City 2022 Saturday night on stage at the Ocean City Music Pier.

Randazzo, a summer resident of Ocean City who is a student at The Ohio State University, was flying high after judges chose her from among a field of nine contestants who competed in interview, talent, evening gown, on-stage question and swimsuit.

Daughter of Chris and Jeniene Randazzo, Maddyn said, “I really cannot believe what just happened.” She still looked happily stunned well after being crowned and posing for photographs with her court, the judges, past Miss Ocean City winners and her family. When they announced her name, she said, “I was absolutely speechless. It was an honor competing with everyone and getting to perform on stage for the first time since COVID.”

Randazzo, 19, danced for the talent portion of the pageant.

“I actually choreographed my own routine,” she said about the talent portion of the competition. “I’m not going to lie, I was a little bit nervous about it. I really pulled it together and took advice from all of the hostesses who were here. I just competed my heart out and smiled through everything.”

She actually hadn’t stop smiling from the time they announced her as the winner.

“I’ll be smiling all year round and for years after,” she said.

Randazzo has been competing in pageants starting in Little Miss Ocean City, going through Junior Miss Ocean City and has competed in the past in Miss Ocean City.

“I think I’ve been doing it since 2012,” she said. “I just enjoy performing and meeting all the girls. It’s great bonding for everyone and obviously competing up here I have a great time doing it. I had a great time talking to the judges.”

She attended Lower Merion (Pa.) High School and now is studying aviation management and minoring in flight at university.

To fulfill her duties as Miss Ocean City, she’ll have to do a little commuting between Ohio and Ocean City, but she has a plan.

“I know my parents said they’d help me out a lot with the flights and everything and I also am a flight student so I need to get my hours in for my next license so I should be flying home.”

She has her student license right now but at some point in the future Miss Ocean City could be flying herself right into the Ocean City Municipal Airport.

“I have always been in love with business and aviation,” she explained, “so I found Ohio State had the two combined and I was over the moon to go there and start studying.”

Jordan Fritsch was the first runner-up, Jessi Wriggins was the second runner-up and Gabrielle Waid was the third runner-up. The other contestants were Summer Raab, Maura Dougherty, Noelle Graham, Cassidy Cooney and Ella Curtin.
