New COVID-19 cases fall in Atlantic County

Over the past week, the number of new cases among Atlantic County residents has dropped compared to weeks earlier this winter, but there were still 20 COVID-19-attributed fatalities between Feb. 9 and 15.

There were 604 new cases of the coronavirus reported over the past week, which is half of the peak of weekly new cases reported in January in the county. Fatalities also had been as high as 30 in one week. Twenty is still substantial, but lower.

Atlantic County had surpassed 20,000 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began in March, reaching 20,811 by Monday, Feb. 15.

This past week, fatalities topped 500, hitting 511 as of Monday.

Across New Jersey, there have been 20,208 confirmed deaths due to COVID-19 since last March, and 665,197 confirmed cases through PCR testing and another 80,790 probable cases via viral antigen testing.

Vaccinations

The state Department of Health reported Atlantic County has administered 41,817 doses of vaccine through Monday, part of more than 1,341,185 statewide (including 984,737 first doses).

Vaccinations are available through appointment only at sites including the mega site at the Atlantic City Convention Center.

People are encouraged to call the state Vaccination Call Center at (855) 568-0545.

To try to schedule an appointment at the convention center, go online to vaccination.atlanticare.org. Scheduling takes place at 3 p.m. Tuesdays, 6 p.m. Thursdays and 9 a.m. Saturdays. 

Daily numbers

Monday, Feb. 15: there was one death – a 92-year-old  Galloway man with pre-existing conditions in a long-term care facility – and 46 new cases among residents from 4 to 84 years old.

There were four new cases in Somers Point and one each in Linwood and Northfield.

Other new cases included Egg Harbor Township (14), Galloway Township (10), Atlantic City (6), Absecon, Hammonton and Hamilton Township (2 each), and one each in Pleasantville, Mullica Township, Folsom and Egg Harbor City.

Sunday, Feb. 14: There were two deaths – an 83-year-old Galloway woman who resided in a long-term care facility and an 88-year-old Hammonton man, both of whom had pre-existing conditions – and 68 new cases among residents from 7 to 86 years old.

There were two new cases in Northfeld and one each in Linwood and Somers Point.

Other new cases included Egg Harbor Township (14), Galloway Township and Hamilton Township (11 each), Absecon (7), Pleasantville (6), Atlantic City and Hammonton (4 each), Margate (3), and one each in Brigantine, Buena Vista Township, Ventnor and Mullica Township.

Saturday, Feb. 13: There were two deaths – a 71-year-old Pleasantville woman and an 80-year-old Hammonton woman in a long-term care facility, both with pre-existing conditions, and 77 new cases including 40 among females from 9 months to 95 years old and among 37 males from 4 to 82 years old.

There was one new case in each of Somers Point, Linwood and Northfield.

Other new cases included Galloway Township (16), Atlantic City (14), Egg Harbor Township (10), Pleasantville (7), Brigantine and Hammontonn (6 each), Hamilton Township (4), Margate and Buena Vista Township (3 each) and one each in Absecon, Buena Borough, Mullica Township and Weymouth Township.

Friday, Feb. 12: There were four deaths and 96 cases among residents from 1 to 85 years old.

There were two deaths in Egg Harbor Township and one each in Atlantic City and Pleasantville.

There were seven new cases in Somers Point, six in Linwood and one in Northfield.

Thursday, Feb. 11: There were three deaths – a 56-year-old Atlantic City man, a 76-year-old Pleasantville man and an 87-year-old Galloway woman from a long-term care facility. Two of the three had known pre-existing conditions. There also were 87 new cases among 45 females from 3 to 93 years old and 42 males from 11 to 81 years old.

There were two new cases in each of Somers Point and Northfield and one in Linwood.

Wednesday, Feb. 10: There were two deaths – a 55-year-old Hamilton Township man and a 64-year-old Egg Harbor City woman – and 107 new cases among residents from 7 months to 81 years old.

There were four new cases in Somers Point and two in Northfield.

Tuesday, Feb. 9: There were six deaths attributed to COVID-19 and 123 new cases among 76 females and 47 males ages 2 to 89 years old. The deaths reported were an 85-year-old Egg Harbor City woman; a 75-year-old Margate man; two Egg Harbor Township residents – an 81-year-old woman and an 83-year-old man; and two Galloway residents – a 76-year-old man and an 84-year-old man from a long-term care facility. There were four new cases in Somers Point, three in Northfield and two in Linwood.

Other new cases were Egg Harbor Township (25), Atlantic City (20), Galloway Township (17), Pleasantville (13), Hamilton Township (9), Absecon (7), Ventnor and Hammonton (6 each), Buena Vista Township (3), Margate, Egg Harbor City and Buena Borough (2 each), and Brigantine and Mullica Township (1 each).
