OCEAN CITY – If you’ve ever thought about taking a mindfulness or meditation class to build your resilience and support a positive attitude, the Ocean City Free Public Library is holding free MindfulWays workshops 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 15, and 1 to 3 p.m. May 13, in the lecture hall.
What are some of the takeaways for practicing mindfulness? High on the list are learning to live with less stress, finding more inner stillness and contentment, experiencing how to meditate, and expanding positive energy.
“One of the best things about these workshops,” instructor Kate Lutz said, “is they offer a place where people get to share their stories, questions, and insights about mindfulness. And it’s a great opportunity to make friends with others who share your mindful interests.”
People who practice these techniques, and even ten minutes of meditation a few times a week, report it helps with creating a more stress free outlook toward life. Those who study the benefits of mindfulness, report it helps people move beyond habits and negative thinking that may no longer serve them.
Classes offer ideas for navigating life, and embracing your joys and gratitude even when life around you may not be on an even keel.
“It’s an opportunity,” Lutz said, “to understand more about yourself, and expand your skill set for taking care of your own needs.”
According to Julie Howard, the Adult Programming Librarian, “workshops offer a great opportunity to learn about, and practice these skills in a supportive group setting. No matter whether you’re a beginner or more experienced, you’ll leave the session feeling even better than when you started.”
In the spirit of community building, the May 13th class will be followed by a social gathering with snacks and drinks, for people wanting more time to connect with each other.
