Mary Jane Weissenberg, 93

Mary Jane Weissenberg (Haff), 93, passed away on July 7, 2023 at her home in Ocean City, NJ.

Mary Jane (MJ) was born in Philadelphia, PA and graduated from Germantown High School in 1948, followed by graduation from Secretarial School.

After marrying and living in Guatemala City, she relocated to Ocean City with her three children.  Soon after, MJ began working at the Sentinel Ledger Newspaper.  She worked at the Sentinel for 46 years, and was the “face” of the front office.  Her co-workers referred to her as the one who kept everyone “in line”.  On her 40th Anniversary, the paper honored her with a full-page spread including accolades from many local business people who had worked with her through the years.  She was dedicated, honest and hard working, and always appreciated her years at the Sentinel.

Outside of work she was active in the community as Treasurer of the local Sunshine Foundation, a singer with the Cape Shore Chorale, and a member of the Margate Community Church Choir.

Mary Jane loved living in Ocean City and appreciated its small community where she was able know and trust many people.  During retirement, she was very active and regularly attended concerts and events at the Community Center and the Music Pier.  She enjoyed daily crossword puzzles and sitting on her front porch greeting neighbors, passerbyers and their dogs.  As a friend she was helpful and loyal with a good sense of humor.  As a mother she was an example of honesty, integrity and responsibility.

Mary Jane is predeceased by her parents Harry and Edna (Keys) Haff, a sister Dorothy, and a brother William.  She is survived by her 3 children Jane Wilson, Nancy Buckingham, and Jorge; her grandchildren Jeffrey Wilson (Dana), Sarah Steiner, Jennifer, and Jamie Weissenberg; her great-grandchildren Dylan and Ryan Wilson, and Jax Steiner.

The family has chosen to have a private celebration of life and has asked that any donations or gifts in her memory be given to your favorite charity.

Arrangements by The Godfrey Funeral Home of Ocean City. Condolences may be left for the family at www.godfreyfuneralhome.com
