Mainland Regional High School girls win Atlantic County track title; boys 2nd

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — The Mainland Regional girls won the Atlantic County Track and Field Championship on May 16 with 171 points, far ahead of the rest of the 12-team field and buoyed by dominating the distance events.

Sofia Day was a double winner, taking the 800 and 1600 meter races, and teammate Gillian Lovett won the 3200 meters.

The Mustang boys finished second.

Day, a junior, won the 800 in a time of 2:16.48. Teammates Emma Preissman (2:22.14), a sophomore, and senior Claudia Booth (2:28.77) were fourth and fifth.

Day led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1600 in 5:15.67 with Lovett (5:18.71) second and Preissman (5:19.61) third.

Lovett, a senior, won the 3200 in 11:51.64 with senior Sophie Goldstein (12:21) and freshman Cecilia Foreman (12:23.03) third and fourth.

The Mustang girls were second in all three relays.

In the 4×400, they finished in 4:08.55, behind Pleasantville (4:06.52); in the 4×100, their time was 52.61 seconds, behind Egg Harbor Township (52.00), and in the 4×800 they were a second behind EHT, who finished in 10:08.21.

Senior Sienna Bodkin led a 1-2-3 sweep in the pole vault, clearing 9’6”. Fellow seniors Lauren Crane and Monica Todorov were second and third at 9’.

Bodkin was fourth in the 100 meters in 12.84 seconds. She also had a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 33’4”. Todorov was sixth at 32’9.75”.

Sophomore Camryn DeMorat was third in the 200 meters in 27.38 seconds.

DeMorat also was third in the 100 hurdles in 16.52 seconds with teammates Aryanna Perez, a junior, fourth in 16.53 and Caitlyn Lin, a senior, fifth in 16.96.

Perez was third in the 400 hurdles in 1:09.16 with junior Ava McDole fourth in 1:10.77.

Perez tied for second in the high jump, clearing 4’10. Freshman teammate Allie Thomas was fourth, clearing the same height.

Sophomore Madison Taylor was fifth in the 400 meters, finishing in 1:01.41.

Freshman Teagan O’Brien was second in the discus, throwing 96’.

Senior Sydney Booth was sixth in the javelin with a throw of 101’4”.

The Mustangs will compete at the Cape-Atlantic League Track and Field Championships today at Bridgeton High School.

The boys finished with 69 points, behind first-place Egg Harbor Township with 96.

Josiah Williams had a strong outing for the Mainland boys, taking second in three events — the 110 hurdles, long jump and triple jump. His time in the hurdles was 15.39 seconds. He jumped 21’3” in the long jump and 42’11” in the triple jump. Teammate Khaled Foster was fourth in the triple jump at 41.5.5” and Dallas Rowell fourth in the long jump at 21’1”.

Foster was fourth in the 110 hurdles in 15.82 seconds.

Trey Goldstein was second in the 3200 meters with his time of 10:15.69.

Colin Cummings was fourth in the high jump, clearing 5’10”.

Matt Muits was fifth in the javelin with a throw of 147’8”.

Derrick Wang was fifth in the 400 hurdles, finishing in 1:00.17.

The 4×800 relay was third in 8:33.03 and 4×100 relay fourth in 43.21 seconds.

Jonathon Perez was fourth in the 200 meter dash. His time was 22.81 seconds.
