Mainland JV ice hockey wins title

Boys team is undefeated in championship season

The Mainland junior varsity boys went undefeated, winning the South Jersey High School Hockey League championship 9-1 over Riverfront on March 6 at the Flyers Skate Zone in Atlantic City.

Mainland scored 2 goals in the first period, 3 goals in the second and 4 in the third.

Anthony Farrell opened the scoring during a power play at 5:51, assisted by Ian Weber, who followed that up with a goal of his own at 14:28 assisted by Ryan Kopervos and Kieran Lawton.

Ryder Harrison began the second period with a goal at 1:07 assisted by Kopervos. Weber quickly added his second of the game at 1:30, assisted by Lawton, making it 4-0.

Riverfront got one back at 3:23 when Noah Berg scored, assisted by Nicholas Russo.

Mainland’s Nicholas Tibbit made it 5-1, scoring at 8:35 with help from Harrison and Joseph Sailor.

Weber netted the hat trick at 3:12 of the third period, again assisted by Kopervos.

Tibbit added his second at 5:05 off a pass from Sean Eden, while Farrell added his second at 10:50, assisted by Aidan Flynn.

Lawton completed the scoring at 14:50 on an assist from Eden.

Others on the team are Jeremy Lennon, Nicholas Thavisack, Patrick McCline, Eamon Lawton and Thomas Leghorn.

Coaches are Edward Lawton, Tim Vant and Nicholas Harring.
