Joseph P. Dever, Sr.

Joseph Patrick Dever, Sr. of Media, PA and Ocean City, NJ, passed away from complications of Pulmonary Fibrosis on Sunday, January 9, 2022.  

Joseph (“Joe”) was the loving and devoted husband of Frances (nee Zalewski) and proud father of his three sons and their wives, Joseph Jr. & Kim, Jonathan & Chrissy and James & Emily Dever.  Joe was a beloved and proud grandfather of his five grandchildren, Jonathan Jr., Sadie, Anna, Grace and Henry Dever.  

Predeceased by his beloved brother, Alex Dever, his sister, Rita Dever Ignas and his bother-in-law, Gus Ignas.  Survived by his sister-in-law, Peg Dever, and his many loving and devoted nieces and nephews and their children, especially his two nieces Kathy Dever Ryan and Margaret Dever Hussey.

Joe was an alumnus of St. Joseph’s College, Temple University and Monsignor Bonner High School.  Lastly, Joe was a member of the US Marine Corps and next to his family and friends, this was his proudest accomplishment.

Joe was a Realtor and home builder until 1982 when he entered the health insurance business.  He was one of the original agents of United Insurance Company Inc. (UICI).  UICI grew to become a publicly traded company on the NYSE prior to its sale to Blackstone in 2006.  Joe retired in 2007.

Friends and relatives are invited to his viewing on Friday, January 14th from 9:30am – 11:15am followed by Mass at 11:30am at Nativity BVM Church in Media, PA.

In lieu of flowers, Joe has asked for donations to the Wounded Warriors Project. Arrangements by The D’Anjolell Memorial Home of Broomall.
