Lang, Joseph J., Jr. 93 of Marshall, VA (and Ocean City, NJ) passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021.
Born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Joseph J. and Elizabeth (nee Burke) Lang, he was formerly of Glassboro, NJ and Ocean City, NJ.
Mr. Lang was a Veteran of World War II serving with the United States Army receiving his honorable discharge in 1947.
He graduated from Gettysburg in 1954 with a degree in Health and Physical Education and went on to work for Pitman High School as a Physical Education Teacher where he served as Coach and Athletic Director. At Pitman High School, he coached High School Baseball for 24 years and High School Basketball for 25 years where they had won many conference and State Championships. In 2006, Pitman renamed their annual baseball tournament the “Joe Lang Classic”. Mr. Lang received many accolades over the years including NJSIAA Athletic Award, New Jersey State Hall of Fame for Baseball, State Senate Athletic Award, South Jersey Baseball Coach of the year Awards, South Jersey Coaches Hall of Fame, Gloucester County Hall of Fame Basketball, Gloucester County Hall of Fame Baseball, South Jersey Basketball Hall of Fame and Gettysburg Hall of Athletic Honor (Baseball and Basketball).
Mr. Lang was an active member of St. Damien Parish in Ocean City, Legion of Mary and the Knights of Columbus.
He was predeceased by his wife Eleanor Mary (Murphy) Lang. Surviving are his children, Joseph III (Gerri), Michael Lang (Lisa), Theresa M. Flay (Tony), Marianne McDonald (David), 15 grandchildren, Joseph Vl (Abbe), Charles (Leilani), Alison (Patrick St. John), Angela Mauz (Joel ), Joseph Mauz (Monica), Eric Mauz (Nicole), Daniel Mauz (Kelly), Nicole, Christopher, Caitlin, Brigid, Padraig, Evan (Corie), Elizabeth (Francis Landman) and Joseph, 17 great grandchildren, Michael, Robert, Nicholas, Roman, Jordan, Jacob, Miley Rae, Owen, Giuliana, Alivia, Logan, Holden, Zack, Zoey, Everly, Johnny, and Ryker.
Friends may call Friday evening, November 12th from six until eight o’clock at The Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo, NJ.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, November 13th at 12 noon from St. Augustine’s RC Church of St. Damien Parish, 13th Street at Wesley Avenue, Ocean City, NJ.
Burial will follow with Military Honors in Cape May County Veterans Cemetery, Cape May Court House, NJ. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to Boys Town, PO Box 8000, 14100 Crawford Street, Boys Town, NE 68010.
