John A. Pfister

John A. Pfister died peacefully on March 19, 2024 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, with his son Jack, his brother Michael and sister Kathy at his side. 

He was born on April 1st, 1946 in Philadelphia PA, where he grew up with his parents, John A. Pfister, M.D., and Mary (Mae) Meehan Pfister along with his seven brothers and sisters. He attended St. Joseph’s Prep, where he was a standout track and cross country runner, graduating in 1964. He then attended St. Joseph’s University receiving his B.S. in Accounting in 1968. He was a member of the Ocean City Beach Patrol during the summers of 1964 through 1968 and then served in the U.S. Army in Viet Nam where he was awarded two Bronze Stars. After the military he worked as an accountant in Delaware County until he relocated to Ocean City, NJ in 1971. He opened the Sun Rose Book and Music store in ’72 and operated that business, selling it in 1978. He opened his Accounting and Management Company in O.C. in ’73. He was the President of the Ocean City Retail Merchants and V.P. of the Chamber of Commerce from 1975 to ‘78. He was on the Board of the Ocean City Arts Center beginning in 1975 and was appointed to the committee tasked with creating the new Ocean City Community Center. He also served as a Commissioner on the Ocean City Beach Patrol Pension Board. John relocated to St. Augustine Florida where he engaged in Real Estate Development and Business Consulting and raising his son Jack.

He is also survived by his loving sisters Mary Eileen Luscombe, Patricia Schoeniger, Kathleen Dunn (James), Ann Hink (Vincent), Jane Swamer, and brother Michael Pfister (Janet). He was pre-deceased by his brother Daniel in 2019, and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
