JAMES PATRICK FINNEGAN Sr., 88

James Patrick Finnegan Sr., 88, of Ocean City, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, in AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, with his loving wife by his side.

Born March 2, 1935, in Bethlehem, Pa., to the late James A. and Mary (nee Merwarth) Finnegan, Jim was a graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School class of 1955.

He served in the United States Marine Corps. Jim later was a police officer for the city of Ocean City for many years before his retirement. 

In addition to being a policeman, he had worked for Tridico Atlantic Station, Powell’s Exxon, Walker Previti as a surveyor and for Harry Klause Cars and Trucks as a driver.

He was active in many civic organizations, including Ocean City Exchange Club and American Legion Post 524 in Ocean City.

Surviving are his wife Catharine (nee Maberry) Finnegan, sons James P. Finnegan Jr. and John and his wife, Dinieth Finnegan; granddaughter Sara Catharine Finnegan; grandson USMC Gunnery Sgt. Julio Sanchez and his sister, Suzanne Ahnell.

A Funeral Mass has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church of St. Damien Parish, 13th Street at Wesley Avenue in Ocean City, where visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots.
