James (Jim) S. Brown, 62 of Egg Harbor Township, NJ and Hobe Sound, FL, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023, awaiting a transplant at Shore Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Sewickley, PA and grew up in Ocean City, NJ. After marrying his wife of 32 years, Catherine (Green), they moved to Northfield, then eventually settled in Egg Harbor Twp. They became Florida residents three years ago and continued living in both Egg Harbor Twp., NJ and Hobe Sound, FL.
When Jim became sick, he was in NJ and unable to return to Florida, where he wanted to live out his life. Jim had a very large family, but never had children of his own, but will never forget his two little girls from next door, Olivia and Alyssa, whom he loved dearly, and who considered Jim & Cathy to be their second Dad & Mom as they grew up. They will miss him more than words can say. He will be sadly missed the most by his wife Catherine, who was by his side as he fought a courageous lengthy battle, and his dog Tiki. He is survived by his sisters, Jan Poppert (Billy) of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Jean Brown of Sebring, FL, John Brown of Cape May, NJ, brother-in-law, William Green and his wife Tracie Ranson, sister-in-law Patricia Brown of Long Branch, NJ and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be welcomed into heaven by his father and mother, Paul & Alice Brown, (Ocean City), his father and mother-in-law, John & Irene Green (Millville), his brother Jeff, sister Judy, brothers-in-law John and Richard Green, several special friends and his dogs, Kinja and Steeler.
Jim had so many friends and always seemed to make more wherever he went, including his “girl” friends, who held a special place in his heart. Jim was a die-hard Steelers fan, loved football season, Jimmy Buffet, and warm weather so he could go “floating!” Over the years, there were so many parties, and who could forget the “Big Old Tiki Bar” where friends gathered to enjoy food, music, fun, fabulous fireworks with the best hosts ever, Jim & Cathy.
A Visitation will be held, Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 12:00 pm at The Godfrey Funeral Home, 4008 English Creek Avenue., Egg Harbor Twp., NJ. With a service to follow at 1:00 pm.
