Horace A. Ott, Jr., 73

Horace A. Ott, Jr of Doylestown and Ocean City NJ. died peacefully on Thursday evening June 3, 2021 at Abington Jefferson Hospital, Abington, PA. He was 75.

Horace A. Ott, Jr.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the beloved husband of Elizabeth A. “Beth” Hinton Ott, for the past 53 years and son of the late Horace A. Sr. and Louise Flick Ott.

“Chip” as he was known to family and friends was a graduate of William Tennent High School, class of 1964 and attended Temple University. Chip would say he was a Car Salesman, but really he was a self-made successful Automobile Dealer.

He was an avid car lover his whole life, starting out as Service Manager for West German BMW, in 1968.  In 1977 he and a partner purchased R & S Imports in Huntingdon Valley, which became Mercedes Benz of Fort Washington and Volvo of Fort Washington. His dealerships increased, acquiring Hamilton VW, Mazda and Volkswagen of Langhorne/Fisker.

He was member of many Professional organizations and served on many boards, he was former President of the Mercedes Benz Dealer Council, Technical Liaison Chairman and a Representative for the Dealer Council, former board member of the Volvo Retailer advisory board.

His technical knowledge of cars only reinforced his love for them. He was an outgoing loveable human being, who enjoyed feeling the wind in his hair as he drove open wheel cars in hill climbs and sprint races, raced Corvettes in Sports car club of America. If he was not behind the wheel of a car you would find Chip at the Ocean City Yacht Club, where he went thru the Flags of the yacht club in 2012, 2013 and 2014.  As Vice Commodore he supervised the rebuilding of the Yacht Club after the horrific hurricane Sandy in 2013 and became Commodore in 2014.

Chip and his wife Beth lived mostly in Bucks County and Ocean City, NJ. He so enjoyed summers in Ocean City with his 3 wonderful daughters, their families and a glass of Johnnie Walker Scotch or a Martini.

In addition to his beloved wife Beth, he is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Montrose and her husband Mark, Amanda Wilson and her husband Eric and Sarah Ott and her partner Mike Rubio. He was blessed with 7 devoted grandchildren; Stephanie, Eric, Max, Sam, William, Anna and Michael, all who made him smile and brought a twinkle to his eyes.

He will be remembered for his firm handshake, friendship, inspiration and entrepreneurship.

Chip’s family will receive condolences on Friday evening June 11, 2021 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.)
