High-scoring game between Mainland, Millville

LINWOOD – The bats were working hard Thursday afternoon as Mainland Regional went head to head with Millville in a softball game. 

The Mustangs lost, 14-13, as the teams traded leads. Mainland jumped to a 3-2 lead in the first inning, but the Thunderbolts outscored the Mustangs 3-1 in the second to regain the lead. After a scoreless third inning, Mainland’s bats connected in the fourth as the girls scored 5 runs to Millville’s 2, giving the Mustangs a narrow lead, 9-7. Millville retook the lead in the top of the fifth inning with 5 runs of their own, but Mainland kept it close. 

Mustangs Ava Kinkler and Haley Daprato had 3 RBI each. Four other Mustangs – Megan Tierney, Annika Asuncion, Joslyn Adams and Isabella Canesi – each had an RBI. Rayna Molina had two doubles and Kinkler and Adams had one double each. Tierney and Canesi each had 2 singles and Kinkler, Asuncion and Adams each had a single. 

Canesi pitched 4 innings, Bella D’Agostino pitched 2 and Kinkler pitched 1.
