Group show at Ocean City Arts Center reveals the beauty of change

OCEAN CITY — Fall is a season of transformation and the Ocean City Arts Center’s gallery showcases artwork that mirrors this shift, capturing the essence and beauty of change in every piece.

September’s exhibit is a group show featuring five artists: Gail Scuderi, Doris Nogueira-Rogers, Sandra Koberlein, Diane Driessen and Kathy Casper. The exhibit, titled, “Flux: Finding Beauty in a Changing World,” explores the changes in the natural world as a result of sea level rise and a warming climate.

The exhibit runs through Sept. 29. A “Meet the Artists” reception is 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, in the gallery at the center, which is on the second floor of the Ocean City Community Center at 1735 Simpson Ave.

The art chosen for this show examines how beauty and wonder can still be found during the continuous state of environmental flux. Artwork will consist of clay and stained glass relief sculpture, mixed media on paper and canvas, encaustic painting, monoprint, pastel collage on paper and mixed media mosaics.

Scudari utilizes materials such as clay and glass which are organic by nature and are durable as a sculptural substance. Nogueira-Rogers’ work has a constant focus on the preservation and celebration of nature. Koberlein’s work is Inspired by water’s power to heal, stir, and transform. Driessen tries to capture subtle changes in the landscape, as well as the striking fleeting moments of beauty. Casper believes that there is only one presence, one power and one activity. She says that the essence of life is growth and change; therefore, life is a state of flux and sometimes chaos.

The Arts Center is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. More information at oceancityartscenter.org.
