Goldcoast single boasts magnificent ocean view just block from the beach

OCEAN CITY — The three-story single at 511 20th St., one of the few mid-block homes in this part of the island, offers sweeping ocean views from multiple vantage points.

Featuring yellow vinyl siding with white accents, including round pillars, porch railings, windows and doors, the home has curb appeal aplenty.

Two ornamental trees line the sidewalk and a concrete path, flanked by mulched beds with mature shrubs, splits the grassy front yard on the way to the main entrance.

A door with a leaded glass window and side panels opens into a tiled foyer where a bench provides seating to remove sandy shoes.

On the right, one door opens to reveal a coat closet and a second provides access to the oversized two-car garage, which has separate doors opening onto the alley.

The 1,596-square-foot home, an early example of the upside-down design (2002), features the great room on the top floor to take advantage of better ocean views. The sellers are the original owners.

Carpeted stairs ascend from the foyer to the second floor, where there are three bedrooms, a hall bathroom and laundry closet.

The first bedroom, which has wall-to-wall carpeting and a full-size bed, is in the left corner.

A second bedroom, with twin beds, is next door, alongside the first of two full bathrooms. The custom tiled bathroom has a wood vanity and one-piece fiberglass tub/shower with a curtain.

Located in the front, the primary bedroom has a queen-size bed, walk-in closet and full bathroom identical to the one around the corner in the hallway. A glass door opens onto a private deck with a view straight down the street to the beach.

A laundry closet with double bi-fold doors is at the base of the stairs to the third floor.

At the top, the great room is wide open, offering multiple windows on the beach side as well as a glass door opening onto another front deck.

The sitting area is to the right and features a sofa and love seat arranged around a wall-mounted television.

In the front corner, the fourth bedroom has a lofty cathedral ceiling and is bathed in light through multiple windows facing 20th Street. A door opens to reveal a surprise powder room, which would make this space perfect for a den or studio.

A long wood table that seats eight awaits diners beneath a chandelier in the back corner, just steps from the kitchen.

Sometimes called the heart of the home, this space has a tile floor, wood cabinets with a granite countertop that wraps around, creating a peninsula with room for several bar stools.

There are abundant wood cabinets and a tile backsplash. Stainless-steel appliances include a two-door refrigerator with a freezer drawer, five-burner range with a microwave above and a dishwasher to the right of the stainless-steel sink.

Yet another set of carpeted steps rise to the rooftop deck, which offers a 360-degree view of America’s Greatest Family Resort.

Ocean City is one of the most popular shore resorts on the East Coast. A great location doesn’t only mean beachfront or bayfront on this 8-mile-long island — there are 10 distinct neighborhoods, each with its own characteristics.

The beach and boardwalk — 2.5 miles of oceanfront entertainment, restaurants, thrill rides and souvenir shops — get most of the attention in this seaside resort, but the island has much more to offer.

An award-winning downtown stretches from Sixth to 14th streets along Bay Avenue and has expanded onto other nearby streets, offering more than 100 shops and cafes. There’s also the popular watersports district around Third Street on Bay Avenue, where the brave can rent powerboats, go parasailing, join the crew of a pirate ship and take a kayak tour of the back bays. Private and party boat fishing tours are also available.

The Goldcoast, from 18th to 34th streets, is centrally located between the Northend starting at North Street and the Southend ending at 59th Street. It is highly residential but peppered with mom-and-pop shops and features some of the most amazing beachfront properties on the island.

Movie star and princess of Monaco Grace Kelly spent summers in the family’s Goldcoast home. It was built in 1929 on the corner of Wesley Avenue and 26th Street.

The property is listed for $1.95 million with Stephen Hoffman of Marr Agency. Call (609) 432-8891 or email smh@marragency.com for more information or to set up an appointment to see this wonderful home.
