Gerald E. Haughey, aged 90, died peacefully on February 17, 2023, at his home in Somers Point, NJ.
He practiced law with his firm, Brandt, Haughey, Penberthy, Lewis and Hyland for 30 years in South Jersey. His practice concentrated on land use, land planning and environmental law. He graduated from the Wharton School of Commerce and Finance, University of Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1955 and served as a fighter pilot with the USAF in Georgia, Texas, England, and Germany, flying Republic f-84f Fighter Bombers, retiring as a Captain. He received his JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1962. He moved full time Ocean City in 1995 and joined the Ocean City Yacht Club. He was an avid sailor, pilot, tennis player and skier.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (nee Elder), two children Michael and wife Julia, and Kathryn Fleming and husband William and five grandchildren: Kathryn, Kelly and Charles Haughey; Lucas and Amelia Fleming.
He was a member of the North American f86 Saber Pilots Association, the Burlington County, NJ, and American Bar Associations, the P.G. Wodehouse Society, the Ocean City Yacht Club, the American Legion, the Ocean City Sailing Foundation and the Greate Bay Country Club.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Feb. 24, 11 a.m. at the Saint Maximilian Kolbe Parish, Church of the Resurrection,200 West Tuckahoe Road, Marmora. Friends may call from 10 am until time of mass at the church. A reception will follow at the Ocean City Yacht Club, 100 Bay Avenue, Ocean City, NJ.
