Hazelwood, Geneva (Genevieve), Estelle (Beggs), age 90, of Northfield, NJ, passed away May 10, 2023 at Excel Care of Egg Harbor with her daughters by her side. She was born and raised in West Virginia and lived in Georgia, Maryland and Pennsylvania before moving to Northfield in 1960, where she resided since.
She was Salutatorian and President of the National Honor Society of her class at Matoaka High School and graduated from Concord College in WV. She was divorced and had 6 children.
She worked at Resorts Hotel/Casino for over 20 years as an Accounts Payable Supervisor and in General Ledger. In addition, she was a business teacher at Mainland H.S., an accounting clerk for B.F. Mazzeo’s, a stock clerk for Superfresh, and an elections poll worker in Northfield before retiring.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and good friend to those who knew her. She enjoyed visiting family, as well as ceramics and other crafts. She also had a love for animals. She was known for her self-less nature and gave to others when she could.
Geneva is predeceased by her parents, Forest and Vercie (Gunter) Beggs; her sisters, Opal Vinca and Claudie Cooper; nephew/adopted brother, Ronald Beggs; niece/sister, Deborah Thomas; sons-in-law, Ernest Gregg and Jerry Gutlon; and all of her aunts & uncles. She is survived by her children, David Hazelwood and wife Elizabeth of Rochester, NY, daughter, L. Denise Hazelwood and husband Karl Clouting of Vineland, NJ, daughter, Kimberly Gregg of Dorothy, NJ, son, Kevin Hazelwood of Absecon, NJ, son, Timothy Hazelwood of Northfield, NJ, daughter, Kristie Robinson and husband Stephen of Snellville, GA; and her nephew/brother, Duane Beggs and wife Elaina of Abington, VA. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a great-niece.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Birch Grove Park (snackbar pavilion), 1675 Burton Ave., Northfield, NJ 08225. PLEASE NOTE: seating is limited to picnic tables, so bring folding chairs if desired. Burial will take place on June 18, 2023 at 2:30 PM in McComas Crotty Cemetery, Pinoak, WV.
