Five COVID-19 deaths, 76 new cases over weekend in Atlantic County

Over the weekend, Atlantic County reported 76 new COVID-19 cases and five additional deaths.

On Saturday, May 2, the Atlantic County Division of Public Health said four residents of long-term care facilities died. All had pre-existing conditions that put them at higher risk for the coronavirus, officials said.

The fatalities were an 82-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man from Absecon, a 68-year-old Egg Harbor Township man and a 73-year-old Hammonton man.

The 36 new positive cases Saturday were 18 men from 11 to 77 years old and 18 women from 19 to 98 years old.

Health officials said eight new positives were in Pleasantville and six in Atlantic City. Five cases were found in Galloway, Hamilton Township and Hammonton and three in Egg Harbor Township. Folsom, Linwood, Margate and Weymouth Township each had one new positive.

On Sunday, the Division of Public Health reported another death at a long-term care facility, a 97-year-old Absecon woman.

So far, there have been 49 deaths in the county related to COVID-19.

There also were 40 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, bringing the total in Atlantic County to 1,099. So far, 198 of those residents with COVID-19 were reported as recovered.

On Sunday, there were 24 new cases in men ages 33 to 98 and in 16 women ages 24 to 92.

Thirteen new positives were found in Northfield, nine in Galloway, five in Atlantic City and four in both Hammonton and Pleasantville. Two new cases were confirmed in Egg Harbor Township. Absecon, Corbin City and Hamilton Township each had one new case, according to health officials.
