First Day 5K race draws nearly 700 runners

Matthew Coffey, 24, of Pennsauken (No. 2727), seen here at the start, won the First Day 5K on the Ocean City Boardwalk Jan. 1. This was a crowded race; there were 679 finishers. His winning time was 15:39.14. Jack Brannon, 17, and Leonard Bustos, 23, of Mays Landing were second and third. Ryann Hall, 37, of Downingtown, Pa., was the first female finishing, winning her category in 19:15.94. Stephanie VanderBerg, 36, of Northfield, was second and Amanda LaVana, 24, of Emmaus, Pa., was third. Bea Pinkerton, 92, of Ocean City, was the oldest finisher with a time of 1:01.53.
