Dorothy Elizabeth Turner, 95, of Ocean City, NJ passed away on April 22, 2023 after a brief illness.
Dorothy was born on December 27, 1927 to Philip J. Cardin and Selma S. (Schaffert) Cardin in Margate, NJ. After graduating from Atlantic City High School in 1945, Dorothy received degrees in nursing from The University of Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing and Glassboro State College.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, John Mason Turner. Dottie and Jack were married in 1949 and went on to have three children: Constance E. Turner, Carole L. Milks Turner (Merritt) and John M. Turner, Jr. (Theresa). Dottie worked as a school nurse in the Upper Township Elementary School from 1967 to 1983. After raising their children and retiring, Jack and Dottie had an antique business in South Seaville. They loved discovering treasures from the past and exploring local history.
Dorothy is predeceased by her siblings, Sally D. Semple, Corinne B. Jeffries and Philip G. Cardin. She is survived by her three children, three grandchildren, Joia K. O’Brien, Chapman T. Snowden and Anna E. Branam and three great grandchildren, Kendrick M. Branam, Freya I. Ash and Eva E. Branam. Dorothy is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Dottie was a 60 year resident of Ocean City and loved the beaches, boardwalk, and Music Pier. She volunteered for the Ocean City Historical Museum, the Ocean City Free Public Library, and The United Methodist Communities at The Shores. Dorothy was a long time member of St.Peter’s United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Antiques Collectors Club and the Ocean City Garden Club. Collaborating with the local library, Dottie was a founding member of “OC Reads,” a program designed to bring the public together through literature.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St.Peter’s United Methodist Church on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Asbury Endowment Fund for Scholarships, 501 E. 8th Street, Ocean City, NJ 08226.
