This past week saw 30 deaths related to COVID-19 among Atlantic County residents. It is the largest number of deaths reported in a one-week period since the pandemic began March 4, bringing the total among county residents to 410.
There also were 1,285 new cases of the coronavirus reported by the Atlantic County Division of Public Health between Jan. 12 and 18. Countywide, the number of new cases surpassed 17,000 this past week, climbing to 17,406 by Monday, Jan. 18.
Egg Harbor Township has the distinction of being the first community in the county to surpass 3,000 cases, with the number up to 3,051 as of Monday.
Atlantic City (2,157) and Galloway Township (2,016) are the only other communities over 2,000 cases, with Pleasantville getting close at 1,95. Hamilton Township (1,544) and Hammonton 1,485) are the next-highest.
Northfield has 647 cases, Somers Point has 529 and Linwood has 403.
Hammonton leads the county in fatalities with 63, followed by Galloway Township (60), Atlantic City (43), Pleasantville (42), Egg Harbor Township (41), Northfield (38) and Absecon (33).
Other deaths attributed to COVID include Linwood (22), Ventnor (10), Somers Point (8), Egg Harbor City (7), Brigantine, Margate, Mullica Township, Buena Borough and Buena Vista Township (4 each), Weymouth Township (2), and Longport and Port Republic (1 each).
There have been no fatalities recorded in Corbin City, Estell Manor and Folsom.

Monday, Jan. 18: There were no fatalities, but 81 new cases among 39 females from 11 months to 88 years old and among 42 males from 14 to 77 years old.
Somers Point reported four new cases.
Other new cases included Atlantic City (13), Hamilton Township (11), Egg Harbor Township and Galloway Township (10 each), Pleasantville (9), Absecon and Ventnor (6 each), Margate (5), Brigantine (2) and Buena Vista Township, Egg Harbor City, Folsom, Hammonton and Weymouth Township (1 each).
Sunday, Jan. 17: There were two fatalities attributed to COVID-19, a 79-year-old Pleasantville woman from a long-term care facility and an 80-year-old Atlantic City woman, both of whom had underlying health conditions. There also were 168 new cases, including 89 among females from 1 to 98 years old and among 79 males from 2 to 83 years old.
There were six new cases in Northfield, four in Somers Point and one in Linwood.
Other new cases included Egg Harbor Township (33), Atlantic City (29), Galloway Township (25), Hamilton Township and Pleasantville (13 each), Hammonton (9), Buena Vista Township (8), Ventnor and Absecon (6 each), Brigantine (4), Buena Borough and Egg Harbor City (3 each), and Margate, Folsom and Estell Manor (1 each).
Saturday, Jan. 16: There were six deaths of residents from 52 to 95 years old and 287 new cases.
The fatalities include two Absecon men, a 79-year-old from a long-term care facility and a 90-year-old; two Atlantic City men, a 62-year-old and an 83-year-old; a 62-year-old Galloway woman and a 95-year-old Ventnor man, all of whom had pre-existing conditions.
The new cases were among 158 females from 3 months old to 96 years old and 129 males from 2 to 95 years old.
There were 10 new cases in Somers Point, eight in Northfield and six in Linwood.
Other new cases include Egg Harbor Township (64), Galloway Township (55), Atlantic City (42), Pleasantville (28), Hamilton Township (19), Egg Harbor City (11), Ventnor (10), Brigantine (9), Hammonton (7), Absecon (6), Mullica Township (4), Margate (3), Buena Vista and Weymmouth townships (2 each), Buena Borough (1).
Friday, Jan. 15: There were three deaths – an 85-year-old Galloway woman and two Egg Harbor Township women, a 49-year-old and an 85-year-old, all of whom had pre-existing conditions – and 209 new cases affected babies to senior citizens.
There were 117 cases among females from 10 months to 89 years old and 92 cases among males from 4 months old to 90 years old.
There were seven new cases in Northfield, five in Somers Point and four in Linwood.
Thursday, Jan. 14: There were seven deaths of county residents ranging in age from 52 to 87 and another 196 new cases of COVID-19.
The deaths included two an 83-year-old man and an 85-year-old woman from Egg Harbor Township; a 52-year-old man and an 80-year-old man from Hamilton Township; an 85-year-old Northfield man, an 88-year-old Pleasantville woman, and an 87-year-old Port Republic woman.
There were nine new cases in Northfield, five in Linwood and three in Somers Point.
Wednesday, Jan. 13: There were two deaths – a 78-year-old Atlantic City woman and an 85-year-old Egg Harbor Township man, both with pre-existing conditions – and 200 new COVID-19 cases.
The cases include 100 males from 6 months to 85 years old and 100 females from 1 to 91 years old.
Linwood had seven new cases, Somers Point had six and Northfield had five.
Tuesday, Jan. 12: There were 10 coronavirus-related fatalities reported with victims ranging in age from 59 to 101.
The deaths included three Pleasantville residents, a 101-year-old woman, a 92-year-old woman and a 72-year-old man; two Galloway men, an 80-year-old and a 77-year-old; a 72-year-old Atlantic City man; a 78-year-old Brigantine woman; a 94-year-old Linwood man; an 89-year-old Egg Harbor Township woman; and a 59-year-old Mullica man.
There were 144 new cases ranging in age from 11 months to 93 years old.
Northfield had seven new cases, Linwood had three and Somers Point had two.
