CAMDEN – Two weeks after Cooper University Health Care acquired Cape Regional Health System, Cooper Chairman George E. Norcross III announced last week his long-term vision for a significant expansion in Cape May and Atlantic counties.
The announcement comes just days after U.S. News & World Report announced that Cooper University Hospital in Camden has been named one of the nation’s top regional hospitals for the fourth year in a row and the highest-ranking hospital in South Jersey.
“When we announced that Cape Regional would join Cooper University Health Care just over 18 months ago, we were clear that our goal was to enable everyone who lives or visits the shore to have ready access to the high-quality care they’d receive anywhere in the country,” Norcross said this week. “We have already begun expanded services at the new Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional and as part of our long-term commitment, we envision major investments in coming years in Cape May and Atlantic counties. We want to ensure that high-quality care and convenience are not mutually exclusive as they have been in too many South Jersey communities.”
As part of Cooper’s long-term vision, Norcross said, “With expected patient volume growth, Cooper will expand the number of specialty care ambulatory offices throughout Cape May and Atlantic counties for the convenience of residents. As growth warrants, Cooper envisions developing a large, multi-specialty campus in the shore region, similar to the recently opened Moorestown Campus.” The 166,000-square-foot Cooper Moorestown Campus offers patients more than 26 medical specialties, a surgery centers, a range of diagnostic services, nearly 100 exam rooms, concierge services, a café, and other patient amenities.
On July 1, Cape Regional officially joined Cooper.
Cooper has already moved to set up clinics to have some of Cooper’s top specialists visiting Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional on a regular basis to see patients, including cardiology, orthopaedics, surgical, and MD Anderson at Cooper cancer physicians.
Cooper, with its market-leading MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, is based in Camden.
and is southern New Jersey’s leading academic health system and only Level I trauma center, with nearly $2.5 billion in revenue. Cooper is also investing nearly $3 billion expanding its Health Sciences Campus in Camden.
