Colleen Joan McCabe, age 74, died surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with lung disease.
Colleen was born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey, and fulfilled her lifelong dream of retiring and moving permanently to the Jersey Shore in 2016. Colleen was a registered nurse and a graduate of Villa Victoria Academy, Mary Manse College, and Neumann University. In the 1970s, Colleen worked as a bacteriologist for the State of New Jersey and the State of Michigan. While living in Wilmington, Delaware, she worked for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Cigna International. After her retirement from Cigna, she served as a volunteer with Volunteers in Medicine in Cape May Courthouse. A devout Catholic, Colleen was a parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe in Marmora, New Jersey, and St. Mary Magdalen in Wilmington, Delaware. She was formerly the president of the Colonial Woods Civic Association. She loved helping people, playing bridge, shopping, and spending time with family and friends.
Colleen is survived by her daughter, Aileen, son-in-law, Michael, beloved granddaughter Vivian, big brother Ed and family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Colleen was predeceased by her husband, John V. McCabe, as well as many other family and friends.
Burial will be private. A memorial service and celebration of life gathering will be held on Colleen’s birthday in July 2022.
