LINWOOD — The changing of the guard on the Linwood Board of Education will be complete when the term of two longtime members expires at the end of the year.
Board president Donna Michael-Ziereis and member Michelle DeMorat have chosen not to seek re-election.
Michael-Ziereis, who has served since 2011, and DeMorat, who has been on the board for seven years, are the lone leftovers from when the board was appointed. The district’s voters approved a referendum in November 2016 to change from a Type 1, appointed board to a Type II, elected board. Both ran for election for the first time in 2018, along with current vice president Steven Evinski.
Evinski is the lone incumbent, running for a second term, and is joined by A. Steven Pecora, Richard Gerhardt and Christopher M. Schneider seeking three full terms. There also are two people seeking an unexpired term: Ryan Rendfrey and Lisa Bonanno.
4 seek 3 seats on MRHS board
Meanwhile, four people are seeking three seats on the Mainland Regional High School Board of Education.
Board President Jill Ojserkis, of Linwood, and Northfield representative Kevin Milhous are running unopposed, while Charles Broomall Jr., of Somers Point, is facing a challenge from Jamie Moscony.
Northfield, Somers Point uncontested
Interest in the three open seats in Northfield is clearly not as great, with longtime board president Debbie Levitt running unopposed and incumbent Kristin Elliott seeking one of the other two open seats. Attorney Stephen Funk is running unopposed to continue serving an unexpired term.
Elliott and Jason Yard were appointed last spring following the resignation of longtime member Angelique Delcher and Kerry Marrone. Yard did not file a petition to run for the open seat.
Likewise in Somers Point, incumbents Heather Samuelson, the board vice president, and longtime member John Conover are seeking re-election to two of three available seats. Alice Myers chose not to run.
