Carter and Karwowski share top honors in Brambley Golf League play

OCEAN CITY – Last week at the Brambley Golf League, Dave Carter and Joe Karwowski showcased their skills, each shooting an impressive round of 42 to capture the overall Low Gross title. 

Their stellar performances edged out Dan White by a single stroke. White, however, had a season-best round of 43, securing the Flight B Low Gross title. His remarkable round featured eight pars and was seven strokes under his handicap. 

In the Ladies Flight, competition was fierce as every golfer in the flight shot under their handicap. Jo Ann Bonanni emerged as the Low Gross winner, tying her personal best round of the season with a 45, edging out Dawn Bobay by two strokes. The Senior Flight saw an intense battle between Walt Thompson and Joe Tripoli, both of whom shot a round of 51 to tie for the Senior Low Gross title.

Chet Czerpak continued his consistent form, winning the Flight A Low Net title for the second consecutive week with a net score of 34. Frank Coppenbarger had a great round, shooting a 46 to secure the second-place Low Net A award. Tom Bowman and John McVerry, known for their consistent play, shared third-place Low Net honors with a net score of 36.

In Flight B, Mike Bravoco and Jim Downan were on fire, both golfers shooting eight strokes under their handicap to tie for the Flight B Low Net award with a net score of 29. First-year player Robert Praetorius continued to impress, shooting five strokes under his handicap to win the Flight B Low Net third-place award with a net score of 32.

The Ladies Flight saw Helene Weather achieve a career-best round of 49, breaking 50 for the first time on this course, and winning the Ladies Low Net title with a net score of 30. Liz Dykie, Mary Beth Quinlan and Dawn Bobay all had great rounds, tying for the Ladies Low Net third-place title with a net score of 34. Arlene Gotschall continued her strong play, winning the Senior Low Net title with a net score of 34. For the second week in a row, Dave Phillips claimed second-place Low Net in the Senior Flight, this time with a net score of 35. Bruce Johns secured the Closest to the Pin Title with his tee shot landing 12 feet 3 inches from the pin on hole No. 12.

Golfers who scored birdies this week included Liz Dykie, Will Evans, Joe Karwowski, John McVerry, and Walt Thompson.

Fifteen golfers scored in the 40s this week, including: Joe Karwowski (42), Dave Carter (42), Dan White (43), Mark Franks (44), John McVerry (44), Jo Ann Bonanni (45), Chet Czerpak (45), Frank Coppenbarger (46), Jim Downam (46), Dawn Bobay (47), Carmine Bonanni (48), Mark Hemmert (48), Bruce Johns (49), Fred Marcell (49), and Helene Weathers (49).

As the season progresses, the Brambley Golf League is preparing for the upcoming end-of-the-year Scramble Tournament and the Jeanne D. Robinson luncheon.
