Barbara Jane Albertus, 90

Albertus, Barbara Jane (née Marple), 90, passed into the arms of her Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ, on February 25, 2024, surrounded by her family.

She will be sorely missed by all who knew her, she was deeply loved. She would have turned 91 on March 10th. Barbara was the beloved daughter of the late Rodman and Kathryn Marple. She is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Joseph C. Albertus, and brother Samuel Rinker, as well as granddaughter Jennifer Theresa Albertus, and great-granddaughter Penelope Rose Thomas.

Barbara grew up in idyllic Linwood, NJ, attended Belhaven Avenue School through 8th grade where the boys voted her “funniest girl”, and graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1952. She and Joe, who grew up in Ocean City, married in 1955 and settled in Somers Point – in the middle –  “to keep everyone happy!”, which it did as the family enjoyed holidays, birthdays, and just being together for many years. Barbara cherished time with her precious children, grand and great-grandchildren, and with her many wonderful friends. Barbara served the Lord for over 80 years at Linwood Community Church as a Sunday School teacher, deaconess, and organizer of a favorite activity of hers…work parties!, and more recently at Coastal Christian where she joined the cleaning and serving teams. Also, Barbara will be dearly missed by her work partner of over 40 years and friend, Carole Miller. In 2006 her daughter and son-in-law welcomed her into their home to live with them. She was an extraordinary person, and we knew it. We adored her quick wit and golden sense of humor, her beautiful blue eyes, her warm smile and kindness, that she was always there to help, listen, and encourage. She was sunshine and joy and has left a gaping hole in our family. Our comfort comes from the Lord, knowing we will see her again because of His great sacrifice on the cross and His salvation to our souls. What a day of rejoicing that will be. The last three years were spent at Woodview Estates Assisted Living, with Angelic Health Hospice coming in since last autumn. We extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended Mom/Nannie and offered excellent care, and all the while caring for her as their own.

Barbara is survived by her dear son Christopher Albertus (Beverly), and her beloved daughter Beth Endicott (Gary), as well as her precious grandchildren Victoria Thomas (Allen), Benjamin Albertus (Amie), Julianna Albertus, Amanda Albertus, Eric Endicott, Joseph Endicott, and Scott Endicott (Zoë); and beloved great-grandchildren Beatrix, Cornelia, and Louisa Jane Thomas; Freya Albertus; and Samuel and Owen Endicott, and her dear sister-in-law Joanne Leeds (Bob) along with several beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held at Linwood Community Church led by Pastor Matt Stokes on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11am. Friends may call at 10am before the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Coastal Christian, PO Box 505, Somers Point, NJ, or Linwood Community Church, 1838 Shore Road, Linwood, NJ. Arrangements are by The Godfrey Funeral Home of Ocean City. For condolences to the family, visit www.godfreyfuneralhome.com.
