Atlantic County nears 14,000 coronavirus cases, 350 deaths

MAYS LANDING — There were 22 fatalities attributed to COVID-19 in Atlantic County over the past week as new cases closed in on 14,000 since the pandemic began. Those who died over the past week were as young as 50 years old and a resident 108 years old was among those who caught the virus.

As of Monday, there have been 13,948 cases of the coronavirus and 346 deaths attributed to it.

Between Dec. 22 and 28, there were 1,009 new cases reported in the county.

Daily numbers

Monday, Dec. 28: The Atlantic County Division of Public Health reported Monday that three women died — a 59-year-old Atlantic City resident, a 67-year-old Pleasantville resident and a 92-year old Galloway resident who lived in a long-term care facility. There also were 77 new cases of COVID-19 including 40 males from 2 years old to 89 and 37 females from 3 years old to 90.

Northfield and Somers Point reported five new cases each and Linwood reported two. There were 16 cases in Egg Harbor Township, 10 in Hamilton Township, seven each in Atlantic City and Pleasantville, five in Hammonton, three each in Brigantine and Estell Manor, two each in Absecon, Egg Harbor City, Folsom, Galloway Township, Margate and Ventnor, and one each in Buena Vista Township and Weymouth Township.

Sunday, Dec. 27: There were 84 new cases among 43 females from 1 year old to 79 and among 41 males from 2 years old to 90.

Northfield had four cases and Somers Point had one. There were 15 new cases in Egg Harbor Township, 14 in Pleasantville, 13 in Atlantic City, 12 in Galloway, eight in Hamilton Township, four in Buena Vista Township, three in Brigantine, two each in Absecon, Egg Harbor City, Hammonton and Ventnor, and one in Longport and Buena Borough.

Saturday, Dec. 26: There was one death in Linwood and 172 new cases, including 92 among males from 8 months to 88 years old and among 90 females from 9 years old to 92.

Friday, Dec. 25: The Division of Public Health reported six fatalities attributed to COVID-19 and 192 new cases among individuals from 1 year old to 94.

Deaths included a 74-year-old Northfield man, an 83-year-old Ventnor woman, a 65-year-old woman and 81-year-old man from Egg Harbor Township and a 73-year-old man and 77-year-old woman from Atlantic City.

Linwood and Somers Point reported eight new cases and Northfield had five. Egg Harbor Township had 35 cases, Pleasantville had 32, Atlantic City had 25, Hamilton Township had 18, Galloway had 17 and Hammonton had eight. There were seven cases in Margate, five in Ventnor, four each in Brigantine, Absecon, Buena Borough and Mullica Township, three each in Weymouth Township and Buena Vista Township and one each in Folsom and Estell Manor.

Thursday, Dec. 24: There were six fatalities attributed to the coronavirus in Atlantic County — four women, a 93-year-old from Galloway, a 94-year-old from Ventnor, an 80-year-old from Mullica and a 79-year-old from Pleasantville — and two 73-year-old men, one from Atlantic City and one from Egg Harbor Township. All had pre-existing conditions.

There were 173 new cases, including 95 among females from 11 to 91 years old and among 78 males from 4 months old to 90 years old.  

There were four cases each in Linwood and Northfield and three cases in Somers Point. There were 27 cases in Egg Harbor Township, 24 each in Atlantic City and Galloway, 23 in Hamilton Township, 20 in Pleasantville, 13 in Hammonton, seven in Absecon, five in Buena Borough, four each in Egg Harbor City and Mullica Township, three each in Brigantine, Buena Vista Township and Ventnor, and one each in Margate and Weymouth Township.

Wednesday: Dec. 23: There were three deaths — a 50-year-old Absecon woman, a 62-year-old Ventnor man and an 81-year-old Pleasantville woman — and 114 new cases.

There were 51 new cases among males from 1 month old to 98 and 63 among females from 2 months old to 108 years old. Somers Point had 12 cases, Linwood and five and Northfield had three.

Egg Harbor Township had 21 cases, Galloway Township had 16, Atlantic City had 12, Pleasantville had 10, Hamilton Township had nine, Hammonton had seven, Buena Borough had five, Absecon and Buena Vista Township had four each, Margate had three, Brigantine had two and Ventnor had one.

Tuesday, Dec. 22: There were three deaths, a 58-year-old Pleasantville man, an 80-year-old Northfield man and an 85-year-old Galloway man, and 197 new cases of COVID-19.

The new cases include 112 among women and 85 among men and ranged from a boy and a girl 10 months old to seniors 98 and 99 years old.

Somers Point had seven cases, Linwood had three and Northfield had two. Egg Harbor Township had 35 cases, Atlantic City and Pleasantville had 29 each, Galloway Township had 25, Hamilton Township had 16, Buena Vista Township had nine, Ventnor had seven, Margate and Absecon had six each, Brigantine and Egg Harbor City had three each, Estell Manor and Mullica Township had two each and Buena Borough and Weymouth Township each had one.
