Residents as young as 1 year old have been infected

Atlantic County keeps recording multiple days without a fatality from COVID-19, but continued positive tests results include very young people, a reminder that not only adults are susceptible to the coronavirus.
On Monday, the Atlantic County Division of Public Health reported it had been five days since the last death from COVID-19. The last fatality, and the only one to date in September, was reported on Sept. 2 in a 78-year-old woman with underlying health condition.
There were 22 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported Monday, including among eight males from 13 to 89 years old and 14 women from 19 to 64 years of age. Five of thosecases were found in Absecon, four in Galloway, three in Egg Harbor Township, two each in Buena Vista Township, Hamilton Township and Hammonton, and one each in Atlantic City, Egg Harbor City, Pleasantville and Somers Point.
There have been 4,059 residents of Atlantic County who have tested positive for the coronavirus since March.
To date, there are 4,059 county residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 since March, and 246 of them have died. Health officials noted 2,738 of those infected have been cleared as recovered.
Over the weekend, there were 23 new cases. They included five males, as young as 9 years old, and 18 females as young as 3 years old. The weekend cases included four each from Galloway and Pleasantville; three each from Absecon, Egg Harbor Township and Hammonton; two each from Buena Vista Township and Egg Harbor City; and one each from Atlantic City and Somers Point.
On Friday, there were five females who tested positive ranging in age from 7 to 57 years old, and six males from 16 to 54. Those cases included three from Egg Harbor Township, two each from Hamilton Township and Hammonton, and one each from Absecon, Atlantic City, Pleasantville and Somers Point.
The day before, Sept. 3, the youngest positive test came in a 1-year-old boy. There were six other positive results ranging in age up to 63.
There were two positive tests in Egg Harbor City and Egg Harbor Township, and one each in Buena Borough, Hamilton Township and Somers Point.
Testing continues
Atlantic County COVID-19 testing for symptomatic and asymptomatic residents continues at the drive-thru facility in Northfield at Route 9 and Dolphin Avenue, behind the county public works yard.
Testing is scheduled for 9 to 11:30 a.m. each Tuesday through Sept. 29, except for this week, when testing is Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Appointments are required but no prescription is necessary.
