Atlantic County cases go up and down on daily basis

COVID-19 fatalities sporadic; small children continue to be infected

Atlantic County’s COVID-19 reporting goes several days between fatalities related to the coronavirus and the number of positive tests go up and down, as few as 13 and as many as 47 a day over the past week.

The age range is extensive as well, with children as young as five months and adults over age 90 testing positive.

The county has had 3,418 residents who have tested positive since the pandemic began and there have been 229 fatalities, according to county Public Information Officer Linda Gilmore. She noted 1,911 residents have been cleared as recovered as well.

On Monday, the Atlantic County Division of Public Health reported no new COVID-19 deaths for the third day in a row, but 17 new positive results. There were seven men, ages 22 to 71, and 10 women, ages 29 to 71, confirmed, including five in Galloway, three in Pleasantville, and one each in Absecon, Atlantic City, Brigantine, Egg Harbor City, Egg Harbor Township, Hammonton, Linwood, Northfield and Ventnor.

On Sunday, there were 39 positive test results including 18 men from 19 to 74 years old, and 21 females, ages 13 to 83. Of the cases, there were six in Atlantic City; five each in Egg Harbor Township and Pleasantville; three each in Galloway, Hamilton Township, Margate and Somers Point; two each in Hammonton, Northfield and Ventnor; and one each in Absecon, Brigantine, Buena Borough, Egg Harbor City and Linwood.

On Saturday, there were 28 cases, including an infant boy and an infant girl.

A 5-month-old boy was among 11 males up to age 64 and a 7-month-old girl was among seven females up to 63 years old. There were eight cases in Egg Harbor Township, six in Pleasantville, four in Atlantic City, three in Buena Borough, and two in Galloway. One new case was confirmed in Absecon, Hamilton Township, Linwood, Margate and Ventnor.

An infant boy and girl were also among the 37 new positive cases Friday, July 24. The Division of Public Health also said an 82-year-old Absecon woman died from complications of the virus.

The positive cases Friday include a 6-month-old girl and 20 other females up to age 83, and a 9-month-old boy and another 15 males up to 81 years old. Eleven of those cases were in Egg Harbor Township, eight are from Atlantic City and seven are from Pleasantville. Three each are from Hamilton Township and Hammonton, two are from Linwood, and one each are from Absecon, Buena Vista Township and Somers Point, according to the division.

There were no COVID-19-related deaths on Thursday, but 11 males from 11 to 85 tested positive, as did seven women from 19 to 85.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, July 21 and 22, four county residents succumbed to the virus, including a 46-year-old woman from Buena Borough and 50-year-old man from Hammonton, and a 76-year-old Hamilton Township resident and 81-year-old Hammonton resident. There were 13 and 17 new positive cases, respectively, on those days.
