Multi-level beach house offers space for privacy, community at the shore

OCEAN CITY — Start the day with coffee on the back porch as the sun rises and end the day with a cold drink on the private deck off the primary bedroom as the sun sets on another great day at the beach.

Offering five bedrooms and three bathrooms on multiple levels, plus a cozy living room with a raised kitchen and dining room, the fantastic home at 2145 West Ave. is ready to host a large family and friends for a shore vacation.

According to listing agent Chris Monihan, the custom single-family home was built by one of the premier builders in Ocean City.

“It was custom-built with the homeowner in mind, offering top-notch finishes and designs, great living space and spacious bedrooms with high-end kitchen and bathrooms,” Monihan said.

The home has both plenty of gathering spaces to enjoy meals and family time, the bedrooms are split up on three separate levels, including a walk-down primary bedroom with a private bathroom.

The tall, narrow home with gray cedar-impression siding on the front has a symmetrical design with a custom wood door set to the left on the covered porch. Columns set atop stacked stone are wide at the bottom and narrow toward the top, creating a terrific aesthetic.

A wicker sectional sofa with cushions provided adequate seating for enjoying a cold drink between beach time and an evening on the boardwalk as the sun sets above homes across the street.

The wood door has 10 glass panes, side panels and a transom, adding to the natural light from multiple windows in the living room just inside the door.

Wide-plank wood flooring, cathedral ceilings and those tall windows with plantation shutters — two flanking the fireplace on the south side, two on the north side and two in the front — conspire to make the living room light and bright.

A sectional sofa and love seat provide seating for watching TV on the large flat-screen above the wood mantel.

A short flight of stairs ascends to the dining area, which overlooks the living room. It has a tile floor and round table beneath a macrame chandelier. A peninsula juts out from the north wall, creating space for three stools if overflow seating is needed.

The kitchen also has a tile floor, abundant Schrock cabinets with a stone top, a glass tile backsplash and stainless steel Viking appliances.

A door in the rear opens onto an ocean-facing deck, the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the sun rise.

Off the kitchen is a bonus sitting room that could be used for multiple purposes, such as stashing the kids with a video game console when the adults want some time to themselves.

Off the dining area is a powder room with a terrific basin sink and glass tile backsplash stretching up to the ceiling. Stairs lead down to the garage, with its coated concrete floor and bonus clothes washer and dryer, and up to the second-floor landing. The entire area is covered in shiplap, which extends up the stairs all the way to the roofline.

The second level offers two identical bedrooms in the rear with cathedral ceilings, wall-to-wall carpeting, two clerestory windows and a closet with double swinging doors.

Back in the hall, there is a laundry room with full-sized Electrolux washer and dryer, a linen closet and a shared bathroom with a Schrock vanity, wide mirror and pocket door closing off the tub and shower, which is tiled to the ceiling and has sliding glass doors.

A short flight of stairs leads down to the primary suite, which is entered through French doors. The space includes two closets with double swinging doors, a king-size bed, door to a private west-facing porch and a full bathroom with a dual-sink vanity and tiled shower.

Back up on the landing, another set of stairs ascends to the final bedroom, which has a multi-angled ceiling and two beds atop wall-to-wall carpeting. There’s also a full bathroom with a tiled shower.

Around back, there are two spots on the concrete strips outside the one-car garage and another in the grass. There’s also an enclosed shower for washing away beach sand before entering the home.

Ocean City is one of the most popular shore resorts on the East Coast, featuring a 2.5-mile-long oceanfront boardwalk filled with hundreds of shopping, dining and entertainment venues, as well as miles and miles of pristine beaches. There also is an award-winning downtown business district centered on Asbury Avenue and a watersports district around Third Street on Bay Avenue.

The Goldcoast, from 18th to 34th streets, is centrally located between the Northend starting at North Street and the Southend ending at 59th Street. It is highly residential but peppered with mom-and-pop shops and features some of the most amazing beachfront properties on the island.

Movie star and princess of Monaco Grace Kelly spent summers in the family’s Goldcoast home. It was built in 1929 on the corner of Wesley Avenue and 26th Street.

The property is listed for $2.195 million with Chris Monihan of Monihan Realty. Call (609) 602-3336 or email cmonihan@monihan.com for more information or to set up an appointment to see this wonderful home.
