Route 52 single-lane closures in both directions

OCEAN CITY — The Route 52 causeway is scheduled to have single lane closures in both directions for the next several months, as a lighting rehabilitation project begins between Ocean City and Somers Point.

The closure began Jan. 21 and is expected to be in place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday over the next several months.

According to the Department of Transportation, a single lane on Route 52 northbound and southbound is scheduled to be closed between milepost 0 and milepost 2.5. The lane closures are expected to begin southbound and move to northbound as work progresses. Additionally, closures are expected to start in the left lane and will move to the right lane.

The closures are necessary to replace lights and lighting structures. At least one lane will be maintained in both directions. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and expect delays while driving through the work zone.

This work is part of the $2.9 million state-funded Route 52 Causeway Accent Lightning Rehabilitation project, which will improve lighting and lighting infrastructure. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2025.
