OCEAN CITY – Local author and historian Loretta Thompson Harris returns to Ocean City AARP Chapter 1062 with a presentation on her recently released book, “Ocean City’s Westside – Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges.”
It is her second book in a trilogy about Ocean City’s Westside community.
The AARP Chapter is hosting the event at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in Room 111 at the Ocean City Free Public Library, 1735 Simpson Ave.

Community Thanksgiving Service at noon Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Second Street and Atlantic Avenue.
The service, sponsored by the Ocean City Ministerium and the Ocean City Ecumenical Council, will include Scripture readings, message on gratitude and giving thanks in addition to Thanksgiving songs, Presidential Thanksgiving Proclamation and a Thanksgiving sermon. Members of the clergy from many Ocean City churches will participate. Dessert fellowship following the service. The offering received supports the O.C.

UPPER TOWNSHIP – The Cape May County Library Children’s Department will be hosting a Space Odyssey Crafts program. It is a drop-in style program that celebrates outer space with out-of-this world crafts. Supplies will be available between the designated hours.

Market in O.C
OCEAN CITY – The second annual St. Damien Solidarity Market will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the St. Damien Parish Center, 1337 Asbury Ave., Ocean City.
Shop a diverse collection of beautiful, handmade crafts and products created by women in Africa. Proceeds from the sale directly support training and employment to marginalized women. Also featured this year are ceramic creations from Mud Girls of Atlantic City, a non profit providing training and opportunity to at risk women.

Jolly Trolley Tour
OCEAN CITY – Tickets are on sale now for a new holiday trolley tour geared toward families with young children.
The Jolly Trolley Lights Tour Dec. 17 will include a tour of Ocean City homes decorated for the holidays, a photo with Santa and a Christmas craft project. Participants are encouraged to dress warmly in their pajamas and enjoy hot cocoa and other treats.
Two tours are scheduled: 5 to 7 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. They will be staged from the Ocean City Community Center at 1735 Simpson Avenue.

TUCKAHOE — The “Handmade in America” Professional Craft Show is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Upper Township Community Center, 1790 Route 50 in Tuckahoe.
Every vendor is from New Jersey and every item in the show is made by skilled craftsmen. Admission is free; donations are always welcome.

Steward program
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County will offer the Rutgers Environmental Steward Program starting in the new year.
A Rutgers Environmental Steward is a volunteer who is trained in the environmental issues affecting New Jersey and works to help solve local problems.
County residents who are interested in improving the environment can learn how to create a conservation project in their community by joining the volunteer program that helps members of the public learn specific steps leading to a positive effect on local ecosystem.
Weekly classes taught by leading researchers from Rutgers, government agencies and the nonprofit sector will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays starting Jan. 21, 2025.
About 11 online and five in-person sessions will be held along with field trips to environmentally significant sites. Topics will include climate change, solid waste, recycling, soil health, alternative energy, water quality, habitat conservation, pollinator protection and environmental policy.
Participants will be required to complete a 60-hour project in their community to become certified. The cost for the program is $300 before Dec. 31 and $325 starting Jan. 1. Holiday bus trip
to New York City
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – The Cape May County 4-H Program Advisory Council is hosting the third annual 4-H Holiday Bus Trip to New York City on Saturday, Dec. 14.
The bus trip is open to the public and only costs $60 for transportation to and from the city. While in the city, participants will be on their own to see a show, shop, visit a museum, or just walk around and enjoy the holiday sights.
The bus will depart from Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County, 355 Courthouse-South Dennis Road at 7 a.m. and leave New York City at 7 p.m.

Crisis Intervention
Families who are experiencing serious difficulties in managing the behavior of children 10 to 17 years old for whom they are responsible can seek assistance through the Atlantic County Juvenile/Family Crisis Intervention Unit (FCIU).
FCIU is a legally mandated program that is available 24 hours a day to intercede in family conflicts and help strengthen the family unit. Its services include short-term crisis stabilization, family assessment, case management, treatment planning and referrals to appropriate community-based services.
FCIU is available to meet in-person by appointment with youth and their families from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 101 Shore Road in Northfield. Appointments can also be conducted by phone or as a virtual meeting to help de-escalate and resolve family conflicts.

for depression

The confidential screening involves 10 questions related to topics such as sleep habits, appetite, concentration and level of energy. Resources and recommendations are offered at the end of the survey.
