Pink hair extensions support cancer research

LINWOOD — A fundraiser started in memory of Mikenzie Helphenstine, fondly known as Coach H to her Ocean City High School field hockey players, “has grown exponentially for this year’s fundraiser,” according to Jessica Melville of Cancer Support Community New Jersey (formerly Gilda’s Club).

The fundraiser, which entails selling pink hair extensions at sporting events around the region, began Oct. 1 and will culminate Oct. 21 during a field hockey game at OCHS, when the group led by real estate agent Jen Dwyer will present CSCNJ with a check.

“Throughout the month of October, you will find Jen, along with her troops of volunteers, selling pink hair extensions for $10 at various sporting events, lunch periods and other social gatherings in Ocean City, Linwood and the surrounding areas,” Melville said. “All money raised will be donated to Cancer Support Community NJ.”

The game, in which the Red Raiders will face the Atlantic City Vikings, is set for face-off at 3:45 p.m.
