Playoffs continue in Ocean City Thursday Senior Golf League

By PETE DAVIS

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – In the A Flight playoffs for the Ocean City Thursday Senior Golf League, Mike Bogdash and Joe Dempsey played to a gross score tie of 88. Mike claimed two handicap shots so that gave him the edge. Mike also birdied the par 4 6th hole to help him earn the match play points. 4 points to Mike.

In the other A Flight bracket, Pete McInerney faced off with Frank Mancini. Pete edged Frank in gross score by one, 88 to 89 but his net 67 was too much for Frank. Pete also pulled the rare two birdie day as he birdied both back nine par threes! 4 points to Pete.

In the B Flight playoffs, Rick Schultz continued his fine play with a low gross 91 versus Mike Coffman’s 102. 4 points to Rick, who has really outclassed the flight all season.

In other matches Thursday, Glenn Giveans earned 4 points versus Ron Venturi. Glenn birdied the stroke hole par-4 fifth hole to halve a Ron par! Glenn also scored a birdie on the 12th. 4 points to Glenn.

Jim Hoagland and Jay Ammon played a very tight match with Jay coming out on top by 2 net strokes. Jay also won the 15th and 17th holes coming home to flip the match play points. 4 points to Jay.

Mike Dumsha squeezed by Ben Fong by one shot gross and one match play hole. Mike’s win on the 17th hole sealed it for him. With a net 62 Mike claimed 4 points.

Mike Janel outpaced Mike Collins in their match with a very tidy net 65. 4 points to Mike J. Harry O’Neill topped Dom Scalfaro with a net 72 for 4 points. Garth Moyle fired a net 67 to overcome Joe Sheridan for 4 points. Ron Forrest won 4 points in his match with Brian Lefke.

It’s looking like a great playoff finish with Pete McInerney, a previous flight champion playing some clutch golf and Rick Schultz continuing to dominate his matches. But who knows for sure? That’s why you play!
