Edward Thomas Born, 94

On the evening of Thursday, August 8, 2024, Edward Thomas Born passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. He was 94 years old.

Born on December 16, 1929 in Atlantic City, NJ to John and Alberta (née Hiltner) Born, Ted was one of three boys dubbed early on as “The Born Brothers.”

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Elizabeth (née O’Donnell), children Cynthia (Christopher), Edward “Teddy” (Aimee) and Amy (David), as well as grandchildren Rebecca (Steven), Andrew, Alexander and Hannah and great-grandson, Luke.

Ted served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952. Upon his discharge, he worked for Piasecki Corporation and then later as a Police Officer in Falls Township, Bucks County. He retired to a peaceful life in Ocean City, NJ, at the family’s Victorian summer home, “The Big House,” loving her to the very end.

Affectionately known as Poppi to friends and family alike, Ted had a gentle soul, a kind heart and quick sense of humor. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Poppi. He loved a good thunderstorm, Big Band music, soup parties, pinochle and gardening. His perfect day would start with a cup of coffee and a crossword puzzle with the “Friends of the Round Table” at the 4th Street Cafe and end with family, friends and dogs around the chiminea with a Manhattan in hand.

Poppi’s impact on those around him was immeasurable. In true Poppi fashion, he carried a business card printed with just his name, phone number and “Friend Extraordinaire.” Although he was a man of few words, his kindness of spirit always radiated and was evident through his final days. To know Poppi was to love him, and he will be greatly missed.

Relatives and friends may greet the family at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday August 27th at Louis Swift Plunkett Funeral Home 529 N. York Rd. , Hatboro, PA. Followed by his Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M. Internment will be held privately at Washington’s Crossing National Cemetery.
