Toby Soifer

Toby Soifer, (z”l), (née Barenfus), daughter of Rose (née Spitzberg) and Isadore Barenfus died Monday, August 5th, 2024, supported by loving family and dear friends. 

Toby was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated at the top of her class from Murrell Dobbins High School and attended secretarial school following graduation. Toby met the love of her life, Mark Soifer (z”l) in 1953. They were married in 1957 after Mark completed his army service. They moved to Vineland, NJ, where they raised their family. Toby worked from home caring for their four children. She assisted Mark in his advertising business, acting as advisor, copy editor and secretary. She also supported her husband during his career as Director of Public Relations of Ocean City, NJ, and could be seen by his side, helping and enjoying many hours together during events at the shore town. 

Toby was the adoring mother of David Soifer (Donna Putkovich), Jessica (Chris) Albertson, Rachel Soifer and the late Rebecca (surviving, Joshuah) Agronsky. She was a loving sister to Morris (Lupe) Barenfus and very cherished bubby to John (Natalia) Burkhart, Talia Burkhart (Edwin Colon), Jacob Agronsky, Dominique (Joel) Martinez, Ian (Taylor) Soifer, Joie Soifer, Julia Albertson, Rena, Sarah and Joseph Edery. Toby was a very proud and affectionate great-grandmother to Benjamin, Nicolas, Anelie, Avia, Edwin, Daria, Delilah and Emmeline.

Toby enjoyed nature, theater, dance, music, travel, outings to Ocean City, NJ and most of all, time with her family. She leaves behind countless warm memories shared by family and friends. Funeral services will be held privately. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish National Fund. Arrangements entrusted to TORCHINSKY HEBREW FUNERAL HOME, 202-541-1001.
