Suds for Seals
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – The Marine Mammal Stranding Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of the sick and injured marine mammals and sea turtles that visit New Jersey, is holding a Suds for Seals fundraiser hosted by Hidden Sands Brewing Company 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15.
Guests can look forward to an evening of fun, food, raffles, craft beer and craft soda, all while supporting a good cause. All proceeds from the event’s ticket sales and on-site raffles go directly toward the center’s life-saving work with marine mammals and sea turtles. Early bird tickets cost $35 and include entry to the venue, sea-cuterie, discounted drinks and a chance to win a gift from the Marine Mammal Stranding Center. Guests must be 21+ to attend. Thompson Harris
to sign new book
OCEAN CITY – Local author and historian Loretta Thompson Harris will sign books from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Ocean City Historical Museum inside the Ocean City Community Center at 1735 Simpson Ave.
Thompson Harris will be introducing her just-released book, “Ocean City’s Westside – Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges”, the second installment of her three-book series detailing the history of Ocean City’s Westside neighborhood.
The book recounts the experiences and significant contributions of the African American community in the development of Ocean City. The book will be offered for purchase at the museum, and attendees may have them signed by the author. Light refreshments will be served.

Craft Show Aug. 10
MARGATE – The Margate Community Church presents its 28th annual Antiques, Arts & Crafts Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10.
This celebration of the area’s unique culture and creativity will feature an array of antiques, artwork and handmade items from local artists and artisans. Local vendors will also be selling food and refreshments. With something for everyone, this event is an excellent opportunity to discover new treasures and support local businesses. Admission is free. The funds realized from the annual show aid the Margate Community Church’s many mission and outreach programs. The church is at 8900 Ventnor Parkway.

Strictly 70s Band
OCEAN CITY – The Ocean City Pops is presenting The Strictly 70s Band at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Ocean City Music Pier. Proceeds benefit the Friends of the Ocean City Pops.

The concert features the best songs and sounds of the 1960s with a playlist that includes the British Invasion, Motown, rock ’n’ roll and Doo Wop.

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS) Program will hold the virtual Lunch & Learn Program: The 8 Dimensions of Wellness-Spiritual Wellness from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15.
“There are 8 Dimensions of Wellness defined by SAMSHA and this program will focus on the importance of spiritual wellness for better life-balance and stress reduction,” said Chris Zellers, FCHS Educator/Assistant Professor. This webinar is a series through October. It includes one-hour lessons on physical, environmental, financial, occupational, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and social wellness.
Participants who view an entire webinar and complete the five-minute questionnaire will be entered to win one of 15 fit bits.

It is time to register for NAMI Family to Family eight-week educational program for family, friends, and significant others of adults with mental health conditions.
NAMI Family to Family provides information about anxiety, depressive disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other mental health conditions. Topics covered include communication, problem solving, treatment, resources and recovery. The course is designed to increase the understanding and advocacy skills while helping participants maintain their own well-being. Annual Luncheon
OCEAN CITY – “Music through the Ages” is the theme of the Friends of the Ocean City Pops Annual Luncheon set for Thursday, Aug. 22, at the Flanders Hotel, 719 E. 11th Street, Ocean City. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.
The event continues to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the Pops Orchestra, the oldest municipal orchestra in the United States, and will feature Brandon Tomasello, a popular vocalist who will perform selections from Frank Sinatra’s Great American Songbook.

Walking Club
OCEAN CITY – The Ocean City Walking Club, formed last summer, invites everybody to join weekly walks on the Ocean City Boardwalk on Friday mornings.
People of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to meet outside the Ocean City Music Pier at 8 a.m. each Friday to walk the length of the Boardwalk. The Ocean City Healthy Living Advisory Council created the group as a way for people to get healthy and meet new friends.
The Boardwalk is 2.45 miles long, and round trip is (4.9 miles). Walks may take about 90 minutes, but participants are welcome to stop at any point along the route. The HLAC asks everybody to grab a coffee or water and “don’t forget to bring your smile.”

Crisis Intervention
Families who are experiencing serious difficulties in managing the behavior of children 10 to 17 years old for whom they are responsible can seek assistance through the Atlantic County Juvenile/Family Crisis Intervention Unit (FCIU).
FCIU is a legally mandated program that is available 24 hours a day to intercede in family conflicts and help strengthen the family unit. Its services include short-term crisis stabilization, family assessment, case management, treatment planning and referrals to appropriate community-based services.
FCIU is available to meet in-person by appointment with youth and their families from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 101 Shore Road in Northfield. Appointments can also be conducted by phone or as a virtual meeting to help de-escalate and resolve family conflicts.

for depression
Online screening for depression and postpartum depression is available at mhaac.info/screening.
The confidential screening involves 10 questions related to topics such as sleep habits, appetite, concentration and level of energy. Resources and recommendations are offered at the end of the survey.
Anyone who wants to take the screening but needs assistance can call The Mental Health Association in Atlantic County at (609) 652-3800. Staff are available throughout the year by phone or by appointment. No cost, no insurance needed.
