Ocean City Raider runner Hoffman is double winner at South Jersey sectional meet

FRANKLINVILLE — Ocean City senior Matt Hoffman was a double winner at the South Jersey Group III sectional track and field meet over the weekend. Fellow Raiders and Mainland Mustangs medaled and finished in the top 10.

The meet was Friday and Saturday at Delsea Regional High School.

Hoffman won the 1600 and 3200 meter races.

Hoffman finished in 4:24.39 in the 1600 with sophomore teammate Erik Preisner sixth in 4:29.48. In the 3200, Hoffman won in a time of 9:27.58. Junior teammate Ethan Buck was ninth in 9:56.27.

Mainland’s Josiah Williams was second in the triple jump with a distance of 44’7.25”. Moorestown senior Rice Englehart was first at 47’4.5”.

Williams was third in the long jump at 21’7.25”. Englehart won at 23’6”.

Williams (15.07 seconds ) and fellow junior Khaleeb Foster (15.88) seconds) were third and seventh in the 110 high hurdles. Cherry Hill senior Noah Casa won in 14.57 seconds.

Mustang junior Colin Kummings was third in the high jump, clearing 6’. Highland’s Jayden DeLeon won at 6’8”.

Ocean City’s 4×800 relay of Preisner, Hoffman, Buck and junior Kal Heyman was third in 8:05.74. Mainland’s team of seniors Ethan Bongiovanni and Micah Miller and sophomores Trey Goldstein and Cooper Brookbank finished ninth in 8:36.93. Winslow’s team won in 8:03.13.

Overall, the Ocean City boys were fifth in team rankings with 39 points and Mainland was sixth with 36 points. Delsea Regional won with 109 points.

Mainland and Ocean City’s 4×100 relays were fourth and fifth at the sectionals. Mustang freshmen Dallas Rowell and Zaki Marcus, sophomore Chris Keena and junior Jonathan Perez finished in 43.77 seconds. Ocean City juniors Connor Berich and John Paul Forster and seniors Talon Fischer and Luke Halbruner posted a time of 43.86 seconds. Delsea’s team won in 42.23 seconds.

Halbruner was fourth in the 400 meters and seventh in the 200 meters. He finished in 49.65 seconds in the 400, where Winslow Township junior Jayden Poteat won in 48.44 seconds. In the 200, Halbruner’s time was 22.69 seconds. Poteat won in 21.67 seconds.

Mainland’s Matt Muits was fourth in the javelin. The sophomore threw for 151’8”. Eastside’s Elijah Thompson won at 171’.

Mustang Bongiovanni was fifth in the 800 meters in 1:59.1. Winslow junior Dominic Bassey won in 1:54.08.

Mustang junior Derrick Wang was ninth in the 400 hurdles in a time of 56.67 seconds and Ocean City’s Ryan Davis, also a junior, was 10th in 56.79. Winslow’s Bassey was first in 54.22 seconds.

Ocean City’s 4×400 relay finished ninth in 3:31.14. It includes Fischer, Halbruner, junior Ben McGonigle and sophomore Jude Govern. Winslow won in 3:19.56.

Ocean City juniors Anthony Gasparovic (142’9”), Luke Smith (129’6”) and Clifford Dirkes (129’6”) were seventh, eighth and ninth in the discus. Hammonton’s Anthony Liakhnovick won at 172’6”.

Raider Grady Hansen, a junior, was ninth in the shot put at 45’11.25”. Delsea’s Jonathan Harris won at 63’0.5”.
