FRANK D. ALLEN, 95

Frank D. Allen, 95, of Ocean City NJ, passed away peacefully on January 27 shortly after celebrating his 95th birthday.

Frank was born in Ocean City, NJ to Walter and Elmira (Voss) Allen on January 21, 1929.

After graduating from Ocean City High School, Frank was employed by Brownlee’s furniture in Ocean City. From 1951-1952, Frank proudly served his country as Tank Crewman in the Korean War. When Frank returned home from the war he returned to his job at Brownlee’s and soon met the love of his life, Ruth Kenaga.

Soon after his marriage to Ruth in 1958, Frank began a decades-long career as a postman in Ocean City, where he made many friendships that lasted for a lifetime. As the Great Grandson of Parker Miller, Ocean City’s first permanent resident, Frank loved Ocean City and knew the island and its history inside and out. Anyone who met Frank was sure to hear many stories about the history of his beloved town.

Frank and Ruth enjoyed traveling all over the USA with friends and brought back many stories from their travels. Frank was a talented woodworker who built his own kitchen cabinets and all the way up until this past Christmas created handmade gifts for his friends and family. His signature “Custom Crafted by Frank Allen” can be found on all his work.

As faithful Christians, Frank and Ruth were lifelong members of the Ocean City Baptist Church, where Frank sang in the Choir for many years. Frank enjoyed singing all his life and was fond of singing uplifting Christian songs in good times and bad until the day the Lord called him home to be with Ruth, who passed away in 2010.

Frank is survived by his nephews Lee (Shirley) Allen, Tracey Allen, and Tim Debaufre, along with many great nephews and nieces in the extended Allen, Debaufre and Powell families.

Frank was loved by many and will be remembered fondly by his family along with the many close friends that he considered family. A celebration of life was held on February 5, 2024 at The Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, with burial following at Seaside Cemetery.
